Kes.........................one of the most over rated - though admitedly quaint - films I have ever seen. Some real poor acting although you can tell it's a one take low budget jobbie. Number of times, the actors stutter over their lines - none more so Lynn Perry and the lad who plays the lead role. Only one to come out of it with any credit was Brian Glover. Legendary scene on the football pitch rescued anotherwise average film - albeit with a decent story line - badly spoilt by too much ameteur acting. Sorry mate, after all that I can't answer your original question.
Barry Norman lives 'too much amateur acting' there was only a handful of 'professional' actors in it,Brian Glover was a teacher at the time.
RE: Barry Norman lives 'Barry Norman lives' I do reckon that the fondness for the film extends only to the people of Barnsley and it's surrounding districts. Always makes a good piss take article out of Barnsley when Calender's short of news (tossas). Other than that, 4/10.........'and why not, indeed'??!
RE: Disco, tha talks ***** nt .....: 'Disco, tha talks *****' nt ...I thought that was part of the deal to post one here?! :x
British Film Institute 7th Greatest British film of all time, better than Trainspotting, Get Carter, Saturday Sunday Morning etc shame on you! here ..... http://www.bfi.org.uk/features/bfi100/1-10.html
RE: British Film Institute Never trust these 'ten best lists' - they prove nowt. (Just like opinion surveys - dead easy to manipulate). You only have to look at that top 100 comedians things they did a bit back. Obviously chosen by a panel of under 20 years old and qualifciation criteria was you must have had to start off at the Comedy Club some time late 80s early 90s. Oh yeah, a few token women comedians such as Dawn French thrown in for good measure. BS.
RE: how old are you, reacon about 16ish nt Hey, 16, I'm flattered, cheers. Must be the 3 monthly injections of botox and daily mosituriser...................now where the hell did I put my Oxy 10?!
Bit of a rubbish list "The Wicker Man" at 96 and Carry on up the Kyber at 99 - gobsmacked especially when 4 weddings is in at 23
RE: British Film Institute "I do reckon that the fondness for the film extends only to the people of Barnsley and it's surrounding districts" err this is the British Film Institute, not the Lundwood Film Institute. Go on admit, you were wrong ......
Eh? Not sure I follow By the way I think Kes is a great film - just that list in general isnt exactly in the order I'd chose thats all
RE: how old are you, reacon about 16ish nt They did in 1975 when I was 16....whoops, cat out of the bag now Uncle Mort (please restrain yourself, no banning for you my friend). Seriously, I reckon many people outside Bransley - particularly 30 years old or under, will have never heard of Kes. Don't get me wrong. It put Barnsley on the map for a short while when it was made but come on, the acting and direction on the whole is poor. It's hardly Spielberg stuff. The story line is quaint at times, sad at others with a viscous, almost tear jerk of an ending but nothing really special. Let's take the Barnsley Blinkers off boys and try and be a bit more objective. I'm no less of a tarn lad then anyone else despite my views on Kes.
