...where do you generally buy your groceries?

Personally I go to Tesco 90% of the time, the odd time to the Old Mill Lane Asda as they have certain things I can never find in Tesco. The local Asdas that have popped up all over are a waste of time.

I get my meat from the Butchers at Monk Bretton and sometimes go to M&S, I'd go there more but it's not very convenient for parking etc.

I've got nothing against Lidl, Aldi etc but I'm just too used to getting things of certain brands (not necessarily the expensive brands) and I wouldn't have a clue at places where the food is generally imported.

Also, will anyone be switching from their usual place to Sainsbury's when it opens? And does anyone want Waitrose to open in tarn?

Morrisons and Asda for most stuff but also the inside market for some bits, usually some meat or pies.

 

I always forget about Morrisons, again I think it's the parking situation there that puts me off

 

Aldi once in a while , local shops for most stuff (especially fresh gear) . Much cheaper and better quality than the big supermarkets

 

That shitty little roundabout is always a nightmare, but the way some drivers park waiting to get in for fuel is criminal.

 

Sainsburys is the most expensive. They do the brand match thing and they have a crafty way of matching prices but you have to buy two before you get the matched price. Trick is just to buy one then you get a voucher for the difference.
Sainsburys will not do well int tarn.

Trader joes for small stuff and top class Kosher steak.
Costco every 2 months
Motis market/Kosher mart for all our meats.

Public gets what it deserves. See how keen the supermarkets are to be cheap when they've got rid of the competition.

But do you mean to see these corporations only care about increasing profit ?!

 

I hate the fact that supermarkets have killed the local shop/grocer, when I was growing up there were five independent shops on Worsbrough High Street which all seemed to do well, each one being better for a certain thing than the other, I think there's just a co-op on there now.

But you have to consider the prices, the likes of Tesco have such great buying power, don't think they are making that much off each individual item, it's just the sheer volume they sell in, and to be honest you generally can't knock the quality of stuff. Plus a lot of small companies supply to them so the money does filter down, just maybe not as much as it should but that's another debate.

Where basic necessities are concerned I don't think you can knock the supermarkets, for everything else though I'd recommend people use independent small businesses wherever they can - such as getting your car serviced etc. Why the f*ck people use places like Halfords for a service is beyond me, the "mechanics" there would know nothing without their fancy gizmos and Google.

 

They've already got rid of most of the competition, the big supermarkets are now losing market share to the budget supermarkets so price increases aren't likely anytime soon.

 

That's why they exist now. No point criticising them for that - they will not change - just refuse to engage with them.

Convenience carries a high price ultimately.
