[h=1] What's this all about then? Who's been a naughty blogger? Whitey? From The Star BARNSLEY director Don Rowing has launched an angry attack at bloggers who have criticised the club for its ticket prices. Barnsley: Keyboard warriors upset chief[/h] Don Rowing, Barnsley director Published on Wednesday 20 March 2013 11:24 BARNSLEY director Don Rowing has launched an angry attack at bloggers who have criticised the club for its ticket prices. Rowing is fed up with people who he terms the “keyboard warriors” who continually knock the club for the price of tickets to access Oakwell. And he’s also annoyed that the writers love to knock the hard work he and his colleagues do at the club. “There are a lot of keyboard warriors out there undermining and criticising the efforts of people who work hard at the club,” said Rowing. “I’m fed up with it to be honest.” Barnsley offer some of the lowest ticket prices in the second tier of English football and supporters have been offered plenty of reduced ticket prices during the season, especially in this the club’s 125th anniversary season. “We’re always looking at trying to provide deals for the fans, but at the same time we are doing everything we can do sustain this club in the Championship. That’s not easy when you have other clubs who are operation on a much higher budget than ourselves. “Unfortunately we’re going to make decisions which are not popular, but we try hard to balance the needs of our supporters. “These are hard times and we realise that it can be a luxury to watch football every Saturday. But our tickets are some of the cheapest in the Championship. Those bloggers who keep moaning should have a look at what others charge. “And I also suggest that those people who are moaning should maybe buy a season tickets for the best value for money.” Reds’ fans can buy tickets for the club’s last four home games for between £20-23 for adults (lower prices for children and OAPs.) “I defy anybody to say they’re not getting value for money” said Rowing. “We’ve offered ticket reductions all season. You only have to look at someone like Leicester who have spent loads of money and charge high ticket prices, but they’re not guaranteed promotion.” Barnsley have until 5pm next Thursday when the emergency loan window shuts to finalise any business for any new players. The Reds David are on the hunt for a left-back to replace the injured Scott Golbourne and a centre-back for extra cover.
I don't understand this response - it achieves nothing. It won't change minds (in fact it may harden their attitude) and using phrases like "I'm fed up with it...", "And I also suggest that those people who are moaning..." and "I defy anybody..." might make him feel better but won't do anything to engage or re-engage people. At best a pointless article and at worst a damaging one imo.
As much as it would massage my ego (LOL) it can't be me he's aiming this at. I've promoted the price reduction in my blog, promoted the 125 game against Blackpool, and thoroughly defended The Don on here as well as my blog. However, I don't see any other BFC blogs knocking around so..........?
Re read it Message seems to be 'buy a season ticket or shut up' - that's my paraphrasing. Mr Rowing, many supporters cannot commit, through work patterns, family commitments etc to buying a season ticket. What they would like is on the occasions that they can go that they are allowed to walk up to oakwell and enter at a reasonable price for them and maybe their kids without having to buy passes/memberships or whatever, making duplicate trips to Oakwell. That is, they are able to consume YOUR product in as easy and affordable fashion as possible. Most customer facing business try and allow that. We all know football finances are unfair/knackered, but your matchday pricing policy in my opinion is hindering rather then helping our situation. Yours, concerned fan. Or keyboard warrior, take your pick.
Re: Re read it This is the guy who yesterday forgot all about Huddersfield Town when mentioning all the local derbies we could have next season so cut him some slack.
Re: Re read it Don, try getting something near true value next time you sell our best players in January. That way you wouldn't have to penalise fans at the turnstyles and devise Dick Dastardly schemes (that back fire) to 'fleece' away supporters Also, you could allow younger children to attend matches if they sit in the Family Stand, and have the right change on the turnstyles so away fans can pay the correct price
The one thing I've not seen are people moaning about ticket prices. I reckon there's fowk taking too much notice of bells on facebook complaining on the club's site. And feeding that back to Don.
I won't knock you for reducing prices though - that was a good move and I applaud it. Also good to see extra few thousand people there for the 125 game, and to see Citeh tickets allocated fairly. Well done on that
I just hope this wasn't our idea of a rallying call to fill Oakwell for the last few games. 'buy tickets you pr1cks'
I've criticised the membership scheme on here but not the pricing as such. Also, I wouldn't know a blog from the West Stand bogs.
Has Keith Hill jumped into Don's persona, in a "I'll take on those good for nothing fans" kind of way?? Cos that worked out really well for Keith didn't it? Baffling thing to come out with. Unless it's the paper making mischief...Stronger together.
To be fair he is probably referring to same idiots who reply to any post on Facebook by the club (be it games or events Etc) saying it should be £10 every week blah blah. I don't want those fans
Just for clarity, here's what I wrote about the John Stones transfer in my blog... "In an ideal world we'd not be selling the boy, or we'd ask for a ridiculous price and see what happens. But there's nothing ideal about the world that Barnsley FC finds itself in right now. Like it or not, we're in a real battle to avoid the dreaded drop into the lower leagues, and we haven't the finances or attendances to turn down good money. Good money that will go a long way to balancing the books at Oakwell whether we retain our second tier status or not." And in the same article.... "Thanks for reading, and if you're one of the many Tarn supporters who have chosen to stay away for whatever reason, it would be great to see you back down on Grove Street and getting behind your club." Here's an excerpt from my Blackpool preview... "I'll finish this week by urging any of you reading, who are as yet undecided with regards to attending this fixture, to do so. Not only is it a special occasion in the history of our club, it's blummin' £12.50!!! There's no point in whingeing about the price of football, if you can't get be bothered to take advantage of offers such as this. And, it serves as an opportunity to make a point to the powers that be, that cheaper tickets equal better gates... we shall see on that one." And this, from my last article.... "During the international break, I hope the Tarn supporters find the time and money to get down to Oakwell and purchase a ticket for the Sheffield Wednesday game at Hillsborough on March 30th. We need to go there in numbers, and roar the lads on to a famous victory - a victory that could have a massive impact on each clubs survival prospects." Reight moaning whinger, me..
Cheapest tickets in the league? he must be meaning the ST prices then, are they the cheapest, sure there's other clubs with cheaper tickets? Because what we have been charging matchday for the past few season's is nowhere near the cheapest. They may be now, after folk have ****** it off and they had to reduce them down to £23. Was it £28 at the beginning of the season under Hill? was that value for money? he's lucky with that statement that somehow the teams started picking up points. I thought we were dead and buried at xmas.
