Lamb today.
Even though struggling to watch yesterdays i got through it, just, after seeing the cows neck slit, i nearly fainted.

as i mentioned on an ealier post I've been up close when they've slit a cows throat, apart from the barrel loads of blood and the kicking and twitching, it was the gurgling noises that did me. I could hear the life draining out of the poor buggers.
watching it also. my dad was a butcher so from anearly age i've been used to seeig carcasses and cutting up etc. However, must admit i've never witnessed a slaughter
RE: as i mentioned on an ealier post Sorry didnt see the post...
Its the still being alive when they are sliting its throat, whats crack with it though? can they feel anything or what, does the shot in the head make them not feel pain at all?
Its like in wild dont bother me seeing a lion eat summat dead, but when its still trying to get up when there eating it...ffs, horrible.

Just watched yesterday's episode No problem with it, very impressed with the skill of everyone involved. The only way it might change what I do is for me to be more likely to buy from a local butcher than from supermarket
I used to go for a swim at cuddeth baths as a kid then when passing the slaughter house (near Vic) went in and saw sluaghters being done.

RE: Just watched yesterday's episode yep took Hugh fernely whittenstall (sp) advice DONT buy supermarket crap
RE: Just watched yesterday's episode That was more to do with how long it's hung for though than anything else
Skilled and successful job from the slaughterers. Don't have a problem with it. Wait till you see the episode on pork when they have to elctrocute the beast and you see it all. Anyone remember that 70's banned film called 'Faces of Death'? that dealt with all parts of death both animal (pre humane slaughtering) and human. This is very very tame compared to that
Funny isn't it I've watched the vets at work operate on cows/horses/sheep etc and it's never bothered me, but the slitting of both the calf and lamb's throat did get to me a bit. I can't get it out of my head that although they are unconscious at that point, they are still alive.

Pig tonight.
