Anyone watch this last night on BBC3? Basically they killed a baby goat and cooked it to eat. The process to kill the animal put off many from trying the meat when it was cooked. Looking forward to the baby cow show tonight. It put many who saw the goat killed off meat through principle.

Watched the last series when they did a cow, a sheep and a pig I think, I get the idea! Why do another one?

What a shock - animals have to be slaughtered in order for us to eat them! It looked as humane as it could possibly be killing an animal. Fine, now hand me a steak!

    Last week.....

I was driving through country Victoria and a suicide emu bolted straight in front of the car. I was doing 100k and it was a scary 0.00001 of a second. The emu was knocked forward, it hit the edge of the road on the opposite side and bounced into the bush.

When I walked back I was hoping that it might have run off. Alas, it was a sorry sight, not much blood but it seemed to be well broken (and dead).

I mentioned it to the landlord atthe pub I ate at next day, he said I should have put it in the boot and brought it to him...... the tourists eat 'em up...

(The vehicle was my bro in laws new VW camper. The plastic panels are well cracked)

They should take them to the factory slaughterhouses.

Showing them the way the animals suffer throughout their short lives would help too.

They did do. The audience was at every step from the baby goat being killed, to it being on the table to eat. I did find it quite disturbing watching it being stunned and then sliced with the blood pouring out.

So pretty much the same as the last series then!

You'd think they'd have come up with some new methods and storylines!

    Hey Mick...

... what's all the furore about the poison-dwarf Ponting then?

Will he get the bullet? I see Benaud has come out in his support.

....and Singe was wrong - Symonds is more ape-ish than a monkey.

Mind you, pot-kettle-black as they say.

Rather than be so specific about 'ape-ish'

If I were racialistically abusing him I think I would have gone for 'gollywog'
that way you cover more bases

    RE: Hey Mick...

It was only Peter Roebuck on the frontpage of the Herald that called for Ponting's sacking. No chance that it will happen. Everybody was surprised by Roebuck.

The ICC has caved in to the Indian Board and shot the umpire. They will also find a way of backing down on Harbijan's suspension. The Indians seem to be powerful in crikkit. They have got billions of people who will pay a good rupee to watch touring teams.

    Storm in a teacup really.

I think it would be a storm in a teacup if it were'nt for the fact that the sub-continent has the ability to hold world cricket to ransom. They should not be allow to ride rough shod over the ICC and get umpires (no matter how dodgy an occasional decision is) kicked off the circuit.

I can see Indian and Pakistan becoming the pariahs of world cricket in the future like South Africa was years back. This personal abuse has to stop though, it's not what sport is about.

    Excellent!

Prices should slump as all those put off stop buying for a week or two, especially after the chicken one that's due up in the next few days.

    Worth getting an extra freezer!

    RE: Hey Mick...

It is not the Indians who are the trouble causers. They are just reacting to the aussie sledging. Harbijan is a bit excitable and Symonds and Hayden have been winding him up at every chance. Seems a bit odd that the Indians give Symonds racist ****. I always thought of them as abusees and not abusers

What do people think they're eating anyway?

A mate of mine won't eat any meat "that looks like it was an animal". So he'll only eat processed meat like beef burgers and sausages. Then you have folk who refuse to go near liver/kidney/heart, offal, sweetbreads etc. "Ooh, it's disgusting!" What, more disgusting than eating muscle? If you're going to eat animals, at least eat everything and don't throw half of it away. Failing this, fark off and eat tofu.

Oh yes, and in case there are any smug veggies and vegans out there, the fact is agriculture has battered the country, killing off thousands of species of wildlife (that we'll never get back) so there's blood on your hands too.

This is the real issue, isn't it

We need to ensure the animals are properly cared for during their lives. Get rid of intensive rearing and such. Even fish are being factory farmed these days, being fed the pulped up remains of their own kind.

    For the smug veggies

How many cows get killed to provide their dairy products?
Almost all the male dairy cows born and all the cows have short lives these days.
Thats many more than I can eat!
