what an album, absolutely brilliant, mardy bum is just legendary and im now so jealous of everyone who has a sheffield accent! just to correct earlier reviewer, scummy is on the album but the name has been changed to when the sun goes down, and it's the next single.

I know you dunt like 'em, but

I think that new single is ******* brilliant. Yes, the lyrics are like John Shuttleworth's, but I reckon that's a good thing. Intelligent, funny lyrics instead of "I love you, but you left me, Oh woe is me". Yes please. And they sing in a Yorkshire accent with words like 'summat' and 'nowt'. The very best of Bitish to 'em.

Go on Jay, defend da yout'

Thought that first song was *****. The latest one is superb. If they set out to be irreverent then they succeeded. I'm just having a bit of fun with their groupies on here.

Haven't we heard it before with Pulp though. Funny lyrics, Yorkshire accents.
I think the novelty will soon wear off.

RE: I know you dunt like 'em, but

it certainly did with the Strokes album for me.

And Pulp weren't really instant fame, they'd been around for years before, they were just suddenly the right sound of the moment.

I'm with Jay, best of Bitish to them or something.

In the space of a year

I saw Pulp at the Duke of York in Leeds (a pub the size of a front room) The Polly in Leeds and The M.E.N. arena in Manchester.

I was there when they were ****. How cool am I.

    I'm conducting an experiment on

how ligging about on the sofa all day and doing nowt for a lifetime affects happiness in extremely lazy and unmotivated males born in the 1970s who like nothing more than ligging about on the sofa all day. So far the results are pretty good. I'm due to reach a conclusion some time in 2050.

RE: I know you dunt like 'em, but

    Which Strokes album?
Still think the first one is class. The second was decent and the new one is ok in patches.
I think they are getting progressively worse. A bit like Chris Lumsden.

**** off. People have to work for those. All you had to do was attend chuffing Cambridge.

Why is it an MA and not an MSc?

Sorry Oxford, completely lost which thread we were conversing like proper adults in.

The Strokes first album for me had a few monotonous tracks and they took ages to grow on me. Compared with Last Night, they just didn't have the same energy.

I still find myself skipping them now and it probably takes me about 15 minutes to listen to their entire album, before I ditch it and put Abba back in the player.

The Strokes had bizarre hype around them "oooh they're rich and don't need the money. Isn't that refreshing!" what?

Different sound non the less and very obvious that it's them when they come on the radio. I still don't think they'll beat 'Last Night' if they continued for 50 years.

RE: I know you dunt like 'em, but

Yeah, they haven't released anything with the same sound as Last Night.
I prefer tracks like 'Hard to Explain' and and 'Heart in a Cage' on the new one (which is class) Not quite the same energy as Last Night but it has an instantly recognisable Strokes sound.

To be honest, most of the hype seemed to be about how they wore converse trainers and looked cool. Weren't they on the front of Face magazine before they brought a record out? Let's be honest they'll never be as cool as Abba will they?

    ABBA are smart.

Music is fashion, just like anything else. Very rarely will a band appear that has the longevity to survive the hype surrounding them, beyond their debut album. Like flares, the sounds will come and go.

There are too many next big things about.

Everyone should enjoy while it lasts. Take McFly for example!
