Sad day.................all the lot should be shut down

If they wanted me to go back I would need a 4 day week and £8000 per month

While ever there are pits that are able to provide a bigger wage than the nearby factories you will get men, men usually with a family to support, who will be enticed to work down there

    Working in a pit isn't a life

So Russia now own the British coal industry

Good news if you are a miner, bad news if you object to yet another piece of our industry being in foreign hands. As my own job is in danger of being handed over to the Poles I have grave misgivings. What next, a sudden wave of eastern block miners moving to Hatfield? (casualty)

not that I'm an expert on the subject

in fact when the last Barnsley pit shut I was only about 4

but according to two people I know closely who worked down the pit they were never really not profitable, at least not the two collieries they worked in, just down to obvious political issues.

are there actually any miners left ??

or just ex miners ?? im willing to bet that if you asked 90% of ex miners who were still of a working age they wouldnt go back down a pit...
