People have been knighted for a lot less than Chris has achieved.

He has constantly took on the Worlds best and beat them.

He's a World Champion and Olympic Champion.

This Nation has rewarded too many sportsmen and women for coming second.

It's is nice to have a real Winner Knighted.

I wouldnt have given him one, but.....

.... with a country so low of inspirational characters I dont see an alternative.

The cycling team was well known to be the base of the team spirit for entire GB Olympic team. Hoy was well known to be the captain and inspiration for that group.

The question should be - do we actually have to give knighthoods out each year? It does seem that like most things in this country that they are becoming devalued massively. 1 man who I think a majority of the country hadn't heard of 6 months ago now has the highest public ranking available. For riding a bike, whilst being paid by his country to do so.

At least he was representing his country

John Madejski gets one for services to Reading Football Club

How does that justify national recognition?

    Reinforces my point

New Years Honours are a complete and utter waste of taxpayers money.

Paul Collingwood MBE for playing in one test match.

    Tim Henman OBE

    etc etc.

    errr, that'll go down well.

What's the difference between a knighthood and an OBE?

    A gold medal it seems!

Chris Hoy gets a knighthood for 3 golds
Rebecca Adlington gets an OBE for 2 golds.

    * Of course Rebecca couldn't get a knighthood but could have been made a dame.

It has all got totally ridiculous.

People who are doing a well paid job (or in a few cases a not so well paid job), because they've stuck at it for a few years get honours. Sports(wo)men (who are on the whole blessed with an ability that us lesser mortals do not have) are given honours in addition to those already attained in their chosen sport. It makes no sense. Someone who carries out tasks outside their normal field of employment, quietly, without being gobby about it, I can understand; t'others not.

    She couldn't be a Dame

    Her nose is too big.

There was a law passed in the Medieval Times, just after a banquet, which said that lasses with massive hooters weren't aloud to be Dames.

    Give big nose one ?

Of course. But she is a let down from what one might picture as a tall swimming sensation. Big boned and with a massive snozzler, and she stinks of chlorine.
