British number 2 to Andy Murray and beaten semi finalist in Australian Open. I must admit to having never heard of him but as much has been made of him being from Yorkshire, I thought I'd look him up. According to wiki, he was born in South Africa, lives in the Bahamas and listening to him speak, he has the same Yorkshire accent as the young royals! We'll decide if he's Yorkshire or not once he wins Wimbledon, and not before! Sithi
He's the sort of player who's likely to get knocked out in the first round of his next event. I'll be very surprised if he gets anywhere near the consistency of Murray
He's won over $2 million dollars in prize money already. Not bad work if you can get it. Hope he does well. We need some more faces in the game once Murray hangs up his racket. I'd sooner they were not adopted Brits though. Just seems the path to pro tennis is too narrow though compared to other sports.
He isnt really adopted though as he lived in Yorkshire since he was 3 and came up through the british tennis system. He has only just moved to the Bahamas so he can train in warmer conditions - obviously he doesnt qualify as being a yorkshireman but he is definitely a british tennis player
Agree, and the more the merrier in the absence of British born players, but I'd sooner we were producing players that were born here, and better still, not just ones that come from privileged backgrounds.
Not much difference between been born here and here since 3. Now I don't know much about him if the system has helped him much or not. I suppose Tennis is one of those that is not accessible to a lot of kids in the same way football is.
He's been knocked out in the first or second round of four out of his last five events before this one. The press are getting carried away with one good fortnight.
