Cameron can now cut his devolution deal with the Scottish meaning that Labour can't get back the seats they lost up there. He will also now push through the previously-mooted boundary changes which will massively benefit his party. A new alliance of the non-Tory parties looks the only way forward, but will even that be enough?
Possibly an over-reaction Orsen. I remember thundering majorities during the Thatcher years. Scots Nats are at the top of their popularity and people gets sick of austerity punishments. We can expect some extreme right wing government in the next 5 years though.
Question..........Now Scotland have voted their SNP in, how effective can they be regarding the governments austerity cuts on local services etc?? Anyone know?
They have no power in Westminster at all. Therefore the likeliest outcome is an independent Scotland and ergo England left to the Tories...
The Tories have said that they will implement a ruling that Scottish MP's won't be allowed to vote on English issues
Which is a Tory Policy I can support - Dont also forget that the SNP are overrepresented due to the voting system - they still only got 50% of the votes - had they had the 94% that their seats indicate that would be different but they have no mandate to force another referendum and the Tories wont give them one this time round. Only Referendum we will be having is the Europe one
The only glimmer of hope is never underestimate the Tories ability to implode over Europe, Cameron hasn't got the excuse that he's in a coalition ,he's got a slim majority with a large number of quasi UKIP MP's to control With a referendum to get through it could get messy.
They won't be frozen out forever, the open door immigration policy they followed in their 13 years of power will pay dividends as immigrants have big families and 3/4 of them vote Labour, it's already happened in London where Labour gained seats.
but that will still ony get one seat/constituency voted in unless they move out across the UK then its looking as if the Tories will rule forever. If the Scots now re-visit the independence referendum and it goes through then the Tories will be in forever. Unless all the other parties left sign up to the Labour banner... and even then I cannot see it being enough.
Re: but that will still ony get one seat/constituency voted in unless Can't believe how much Labour have fecked it up this time round, it truly was theirs to lose. But sooner or later they are going to have to realise that the 1970s was a lifetime ago and the people of this country don't do class war socialism any more. What the country wanted was a Labour government that had a clear understanding of the principles of wealth generation as the Tories have, but with a bit of a heart that some perceive is missing from the Tory outlook. They couldn't demonstrate that they had that clear understanding that underpins economic competence and indeed went some way to proving the opposite with their plans for market price fixing and rent controls that have never ever worked in the history of time, but they arrogantly thought would be different this time. so in the end, faced with a choice between economic competence with less compassion or no economic comptence, the peole concluded that the economy is too important to risk. Throw in the worry that the lack of clarity in Labours manifesto would be provided by the even more left wing vision of the SNP and people went safe. Sooner or later Labour will have a chance to win again because people eventually tire of a lack of compassion and will vote for it if it is matched by competence. If the Tories become too right wing the electorate will look to move back to the centre. But if the economic competence is not there, then they will shy away. Tony Blair understood this, for all his faults and Labour will not win again until they re-learn that principle.
Re: but that will still ony get one seat/constituency voted in unless IMO there's no evidence that the vast majority of English don't agree with social justice or fairness. Don't forget there were a hell of a lot of people didn't vote for one reason or another and this needs addressing asap. Its in the interests of the Tories and to some extent labour to keep the status quo and ignore or half heartedly try and engage the non voters. They are not all can't be bothered or arsed to vote I know plenty who genuinely thought there was nothing g to offer from the political menu offered to us. Not my view at all but if its what they feel then there must be lots with that attitude and to gauge this a box on the voting form stating non of the above or something to that effect will be at least a start.
Re: but that will still ony get one seat/constituency voted in unless Labour May Be Frozen Out Forever After another 5 years of these W***ers!!!, Donald duck would get the PM vote. I F****ng hate conservatives with a passion.
