there are basics in football that don't need experience to master. Like passing, closing down, tackling, running off the ball, crossing etc, etc. Why are we so inconsistent in these kinds of skills?
Experience comes in with game management, leadership, reading the game - all that kind of stuff. I just don't get why one week we look competitive and another out of depth.
Is it the basic skills letting us down or lack of experience? Probably both but I'd go 70/30 on skills letting us down rather than experience.

Interested to see what others think.

We lack both experience and quality. We try to make up for this in effort but in doing so often neglect the basics.

We sign loads of kids that need to learn on the job that's why we are inconsistent.
Then when the odd ones are showing progress we sell em.

All teams have effort, it's rubbish to think that we try harder than any other team.
Like you say it's down to a lack of quality and experience.

Yes the lack of experience is a problem but the glaring lack of quality is a bigger one.
Piss poor summer recruitment has got us where we are right now and January will come too late to save us. To be honest we’ll probably sell Woodrow then anyway to offset some of the £6m that relegation will cost us.

For me it comes down to decision making and that improves with experience. From that point the poor miss- placed passes are not as noticeable as they happen far less.

In terms of raw ability , they are all very good players that’s why they are on the pitch and we are in the stands.

In my opinion though the cohesion that really makes a successful team is based on know how, leadership and courage

Couldn't agree more mate, we've got a team of honest players who work hard and don't hide, but simply aren't good enough compared to those in the teams we've played, and I'm pretty sure, in most of the teams we've yet to play.

I would have liked to have seen the promoted squad have a crack at the division, and if we were still struggling come January, then start making changes.

They`re to busy learning how to timewaste, feign injury and get themselves booked purposely to break up play. The new basics its looking like.

I think the first thing they want to do is a visit to Spec Savers. The amount of misplaced passes to opposing players is just ridiculous. And it’s not because they are young and inexperienced at this level it’s just basic football.

I thought we gave it away last season quite a bit. That and made poor decisions when in good positions. Sadly, we've got worse this year which is completely understandable and I think much is down to just not being confident or knowing what they are all trying to do. There have been times where players have passed to a player who has moved just as the pass has been made. Its not technique, its decision making, confidence and understanding of each others games. Its often forgotten that when a player leaves, its not just their individual attributes you lose, but also their understanding of the team, the tactics and how they fit in with that.

Watched the highlights a couple of times and their first goal is unbelievable in terms of how bad the defending is. It’s a set piece, so we should be set up right and they can knock a simple ball down the right hand of the box where the attacker goes unchallenged and turns easily to cross a dangerous ball across the box where a totally unmarked player sidefoots into an empty net, with Cavare watching him 3 yards behind. That’s just criminal at any level, never mind the Championship.

If you’re conceding goals like that, you’ve got to admit the players aren’t good enough, no matter what age they are. Abysmal.
