Can anyone recommend me a new laptop? Just want it for the usual stuff... writing, e-mail, games, internet, with the necessity of bluetooth (which I guess most have) so I can access internet through my phone on there when out and about. As for price, just the best value up to a maximum of £500, as high a spec as possible of course. Dell the best bet? PC World if any offers on or what? If anyone can recommend a model they have themselves at a good price then great.
Not a techie......... these any good? http://www.dabs.com/productview.asp...earchMode=any&NavigationKey=15#specifications http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.asp...osedRefinement=11001&InMerch=1#specifications http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.asp...onKey=11012&ExposedRefinement=11001&InMerch=1 http://www.dabs.com/ProductView.asp...onKey=11012&ExposedRefinement=11001&InMerch=1
Dell are your best bet as they'll do a great offer every week or so. Keep your eye on: http://www.hotukdeals.com/?merchant...lter=All&status_filter=Active&order_by=Newest Otherwise Acer normally do pretty reasonable spec laptops if you can't wait.
I've had some decent stuff from Dell Outlook, this is the refurbished sector of Dell Co, machines returned by customers as wrong spec, and often end of lines. But I have always had desktops not laptops, although my laptop is a Dell, bought at a Computer fair. None have ever been a bit of bother
One problem with Dell Outlet... ...is that many ebay PC sellers scour the listings with their scripts automatically picking up the best bargains for resale and leaving only the dross behind. Unless you want to piss about with programs such as Proxomitron and refresh the page every few milliseconds, you're more likely to pick up a bargain by using the main site.
Thats true, my first from outlet was before ebay, thats going back a bit, still going strong though . a dual CPU P3 SCSI, hard drives make a racket compared to todays, but they do wiz at 10,000 good oks SCSI. Just used for Photoshop with a SCSI scanner, not much call with digital, but too good to scrap
Acer - lots of variants I'd recommend an Acer. They're one of the most common brands worldwide, and theres loads and loads of variants depending on what you need. There are a few outlets on the internet that mainly deal with Acer and give all the different model numbers etc. I decided what i wanted and then found it on ebuyer.co.uk a few quid cheaper. They look nice (slim and silver). Don't know if it is still the case, but before christmas, Tesco at Wath had loads of Acer laptops (but only one model). Bought another 3 budget ones (less than £400 for work) and had no trouble. Also bought a DELL laptop for a colleague at work that was about £400, but it looks like a black brick - its bulky, its black and its heavy. Although they often have offers where you can get double RAM and free postage.
Not got one but on spec for the money, this has to be worth considering: http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/540928/art/hp/presario-f545ea-media-cen.html?srcid=738# If you go for it, use the coupon code Priceuk070402 at checkout to get £11 off, making it £496.40 delivered. Doesn't have bluetooth as far as I can see but my USB bluetooth adapter cost £6 at Icon on Sheffield Rd.
just been an advert on pcworld for a £399 Compaq laptop - seems a good spec if you're not a gamer - 1GB RAM, DVD RW, 80GB HDD. Presumsbly on their website depends if you like the look.

these seem good http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=262515&sourceid=6036
Cheers guys, what about this one? http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/st...kgmcflgceggdhhmdfho.0&page=Product&sku=853219 Looks pretty good?
link didn't work just had a quick look on pcworld site - 2 listed at £399. an Advent and a Compaq. The Compaq is reduced by £100 but the advent seems to have slightly better specs. I suspect neither are bluetooth but should be wifi. a bluetooth dongle or cable is only a few quid. There is also an Acer at £500 with better specs but it is a 17" screen - could be bulky, but if not meant to be portable could be a good buy.
