If you had £800 to spend on a laptop, what would you buy and why? Toshiba's any good? Want a DVD rewriter, decent games playability. microsoft office and quick processor. Good size memory too. Any suggestions gratefully received cos I feel like I'm being ripped off by the major stores in their advice. Cheers Prediction for 1st game: Flinders, Tonge, Reid, Carbon, Austin, Shuker, Burns, McPhail, Williams, Hayes, Nardiello. (Would like to see Hassell at heart of defence but not sure who with!) BFC 3, Swindon 1: Nardiello 2, Hayes 1.
Well... You can't go too far wrong with Dell or Toshiba laptops. I've had quite a few. Take a look at: http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/compare.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&id=inspn&l=en&s=dhs If you want something around that price that's nice and mobile and doesn't way a ton but is still a decent size screen and spec take a look at the Dell 510m. I had the previous model the 500m and I've got to say it was a nice bit of kit. Your probably not going to get the best deal in any of the major stores though. The only downsize of getting a Dell is that it gets built to your spec so it take a couple of weeks before you get your hands on it. If you're impatient have a look at the Tosh selection here: http://www.dabs.com/uk/channels/hardware/notebooksandtablets/products.htm?catid=21 If you are looking to play the latest and greatest games you will probably have to spend more than £800 to get something with a **** hot graphics card though ( I think allthough I'm not much of a games player)
Games... My laptop is a Mac so it might be different, but it is about three years old and plays games like FM2005 okay, though a little but slow. I wouldn't have thought that you'd have to spend more than your budget to play decent games, but I could be wrong.
Yeah Macs are completely different. The extra money I'm talking about is to get a really **** hot 3D graphics accelerator card with a decent ammount of memory (128/256 mb). Your standard laptop graphics card probably won't run some of the more graphics intensive games very well (like Doom 3 for instance).
