Here's a quote from a Blackpool fan on their forum. Maybe Clarke is a tactical genius after all.

"The Barnsley manager played a blinder.
He brought the huge number 5 on for the final corner, our defence were completely distracted by him, three of them all over him so they didn't watch the ball, I suspect that's all number 5 does!"

He’s quite right and could explain why none of their players appealed for hand ball against Roberts. It still looks like it went in off his upper arm or shoulder (maybe that’s legal?). He and Earl were having a good laugh about it as they went back to our half. Robbo maybe whispered in his ear “got away with that one”.

It was certainly a good sub by Clarke.

Assuming the last bit of the quote is a bit of tongue in cheek given Pines has a pretty good goal record for us…

Ball hitting or coming off the shoulder has never ever been handball. When I reffed the laws stated that ‘the ball had to be intentionally propelled by hand or arm’ of course it’s changed a bit now, but sometimes trying to tell whether it’s hit upper arm or shoulder in real time is impossible.

I like Pines, yes he looks a bit awkward at times but he is a massive
( no pun intended)asset for crosses into either box .

Might have been better than we thought as well... the number 4 went up on the board so Roberts was coming off then changed and 44 came off!

I remember reading a book years ago where Norman Whiteside (Man.Utd) said his favourite move was using the shoulder to put the ball in the net. We use to coach chest control with the player pulling the chest back to cushion the ball and both shoulders automatically moved forward.

I think that was the 4 minutes being indicated by the 4th official?

Either way, never a handball, perfectly ‘good’ goal.

Think he got away with shoving their player for 2 metres to get to ball more than handling it :D

I saw the 4 but that was to indicate time added on. Single figure, not two as in one off, one on

I wouldn’t blame the ref for allowing it as the area was so crowded but I’m pretty sure Marc’s head was nowhere near the ball. When I saw the goals again at the end there was a clear shot of a fan (or maybe more) behind that goal appealing for hand ball, but they would, wouldn’t they!

Good lad. They all do it so it’s nice for one to go our way for a change
