Not sticking up for McClaren but I think any team missing the amount of "first teamers" we did would have towed.I'm quite sure a team with Terry,Ferdinand,Cole,Carrick,Owen and Rooney would have got us through last night.

Possibly but not if Mclaren employed the same useless long ball tactics

But surely with Owen and Rooney the tactics would have been different.

don't often disagree with you brian

but it shouldn't have come down to last night, should it? We didn't have "key" players missing for all the other games that we lost or drew.

Yeah possibly, but I think there still would've been a tendency to hoof it, from the defenders especially. But I see your point, we did miss quality, but I can't but feel the players we did have could and should've coped and got what was needed

Sorry I meant Hargreaves who was our best player at last years world cup.

Hargreaves and Cole were both on the bench so he could have started with both if he'd been so inclined.

It shouldn't have been all on last night but unfortunately it was and when the time came we were lacking quality and experiance all over the park.
