And Kay was centre half in 8 of those games. So if we are looking to improve defensively we'd better sign a centre half of at least equal quality to Kay.

Hope we have a plan B seeing as Lucketti's not coming.

We'll have a better centre half than Kay in for the start of the season.

Liked the lad when he played but don't really think he's championship quality, probably why he's ended up at Tranmere. Heard he had a choice between Tranmere, Sturdy Lads or Full House. :D

Hope so.

Thought Kay did well to get fixed up at all after how his departure from BFC was handled.

liked tony kay

100% , but harsh reality was " is he good enough?" , ill never forget the lunge on trundle in extra time of play off final , trundle should have fell over , slotted the penalty and hey presto , bransley still in the ale house league.

Is NYATANGA really our defensive saviour???

I'm sorry but I don't believe that he is any better than anyone else who played for us in that position last season. He could be some years in the future but it is unlikely that he will be playing for us when that comes about.
I just did a couple of quick calculations to back up my opinion:-
We played 46 league games last season and had 85 goals scored against us. That's an average of 1.85 g.p.g
Nyatanga played in 11 games during which we conceded 24 goals. That's an average of 2.18 g.p.g.
In the other 35 games that he didn't play in, we conceded 61 goals. That's an average of 1.74 g.p.g.

I don't think he was to blame for the goals

We had other problems in the back four that allowed this to happen. What I saw is he was trying to cover for all the defence.

A decent set of full backs would have made Reid and Kay look good. Thus the reason why we seem to have addressed it as a priority.

RE: I don't think he was to blame for the goals

We had five goals scored against us 3 times last season, two of those were when he was playing. We conceded 4 goals on two occasions, again one of which was when he was playing. I'm not saying that he was responsible for all the goals that were scored in those matches but he does share the responsibility. What I'm saying is that generally speaking, his presence in the defence didn't improve our goals against column, if anything it worsened it. I repeat, IMHO, he was no better than any of the others that played last season.

At last someone else that was watching the game and not dreaming

Nyatanga was no better than the others, NO he was not trying to cover for all the others, he will be a good player in a couple of years but he too makes mistakes. People seem to think that he had to be good because he came in and played, the FACTS show he was not as good as you thought.
But what do I know , not in the game , a miserable Barsteward, I only want us to do badly, anti club. (blagger) (blagger)

Really puzzles me your view on Nyatanga mate gotta be honest, How can u say he cant handle big men? remember Jonny Parkin when hull came in March, nar the dunt come much bigger than him mate, he won everything off him, is organistational skills for someone so young is fantastic, and seems to me to absoultly love defending, if we could get him on loan for season i would be over moon, and to be honest matey think id be in the majority.

Where did I say that.
Look at the facts , with him in the side we conceded **** loads, without him we conceded slightly less shitloads.
I think that in the future he will be a tremendous player, but at the moment he is not the greatest .

Any chance of naming and shaming the teams who failed to score against us? :D

no mate brotyke said that in one is posts in the last couple of days, id only consider them stats if he'd played more than half the games of last season not 10, plus he's playing in front of a league 1 keeper, a league 1 full back(hecky) individually for me wo magnificent for us while here, and fair enough your that's your opinion, but id bet that 90% of supporters would be over the moon at him back.

What about another central defender who seems to be finished at Derby... Darren Moore?
We could certainly do with his experience.
