I dont know how many ex servicemen read my Meanderings,
but im a x Miner,done it all,x soldier ,done most of it,x trackt y driver ,done last bus to grimy,and kendray...enjoyed every minute of it..including this ..
when i left Korea in 1953 ,i was posted to the SUEZ Canal(what a barsteward posting)Spit and polish,Gurd duty ,work,spit and polish.....now for 2 years i had been away from any Bull at all,ragamuffins i was the captain,i even lost me pyjamas in korea only to find i was wearing them,when i took a bath....well we arrived at Pot said in the dark, were taken by truck to FAYID a transit camp,we arrive at this place,i am getting off the wagon ,some one touches my arse,(no Kidding0 you you are on Guat rd duty,FFF GUARD duty,never seen the place,go and get your ammo, so im wandering round a place with one up the spout,i was Sh** scared i tell you.....day light comes...and we are given our postings,i am sent to USMALLIA, oh what a BULL SH** camp.just like training sall over,remember i done mo proper soldiering for 2 years,and here i am at this place..first of all the gear we had in Korea was different,i had to hand it in,they did not have a ful supply of gear so i had to do without certain gear IE battle pouches That hole you pack to your belt.im put in a 4 man tent..forgot how to lay my kit out on the bed, a drop of water is seen on my plate ....ON a Charge...given 3 days jankers.now the jankers parade at 5 pm,was like the Queens parade...the lads could not believe when they saw me going to that parade,,,ther are 6 of us on jankers...the officer gets to me....he faints( they bring him round)) i get another 3 days jankers ive only been there 2 days.....an ive 6 days jankers already..so all the lads take pity on me ,ive forgotten how to blanco, my gear,so they help me, make sure my boots shine,and i turn out like a Coldstream guardsman for 5 days.....So then some one decides,to give ma job in the Cook house out of the way....I blow my self up....Burn my right arm...so im given the Squad runners Job...to cut a long story short.....the last job i did in the Army i was sweeping the desert..OH YES,we had 4 man tents in the sand,and on a morning we tried to beat tacj other making a nice pattern out side our tent,,,thats what i was doing when this Chao tapped me on the Shoulger and said come YORKY YOU Little Barsteward your Gping Home

dus tha know, i cant remeber for sure,if it was ,red,or whute..if had to put me last ten bob on it i would say RED...and do you know one night,it was a sunday night, a young man ,half canned,jumped on the bus after this girl,and as i left the last stop before going to shafton,just got in top gear.the Birk stepped off the Bus,i got an emegany stop...i jumped out and ran back to see if he was ok,HE WAS, but half of GRIMY were after my Blood,its a good jo,a Cop car saw it all......you aint done nowt unless you done last bus to grimey.....

hey up Eaststander,i was a Eaststander in those days me sen,r8 opposite tunnel,(Gangway)
but if you a grimey lad ,you will like this,at the Time Grimethorpe pit were changin theor shaf system,,some of the men were taken to different pits around the area..well it was the afternoon shift,all i had to dau was go to Houghton,pick the grimey lads up take them back to grimey,and then go home to tarn Empty......well it was thick fog.so i waited in the yard and got behind another bus,and followed him...when he stopped,and i sat and waited for him to set off.....But no,,the driver got out of his bus..and said where are you going,i said tarn depot.he said you had better get out and look,..i had only followed him into SHAFTON Depot.......No i alway ran a 2 mins behind time,it werent me that left thee....
