not replaced big Val and Woodrow should never have been given the captains armband. His performances and role in the side are more than questionable.
Who would have the armband though? Helik not exactly leading much himself at the minute. Although to be fair to him, he has a different centre back ether side of him every game, or at least it feels that way. I remember when some folk said we wouldn’t miss Mowatt. We miss loads of the qualities he had.
Should have signed a captain,I think Kitching was captain at FGR(could be wrong)but he’s no where near ready,Hourihane would have been a great signing on a season loan, missed out big style.
Suspect his earnings haven’t changed, but we’d have been unlikely to match the wage contribution that Sheff U offered. We desperately need to bring in an experienced midfielder in Jan. Whether that’s a player the new coach knows, like Sollbauer, or a James like loan. Can’t see it happening though. The new CEO sounds as inflexible in transfer policy as Conway.
I like Woodrow yes. But I don’t think he’s a proper “leader” but I ask the same question I did earlier in the thread, who would you give the armband to?
I don’t really see that. He’s in charge of the back line but then he’s an international centre back so he should be. Don’t really see him “geeing” other players up though, whether he would if he had the armband, I don’t know.
You're not the only one who doesn't see it. Helik doesn't lead and it's part of his game that needs improving - he also doesn't need the captain's armband to do a better job in that department.
Exactly. Would just be more pressure on him. I don’t think we really have any standout options for the armband. Wouldn’t be good taking it off Woodrow either.
A captain's role isn't just about the match day. We don't have any obvious leaders/replacements but I bet your bottom dollar that Cauley is the player these youngsters look up to the most. Clearly nothing is going for him football wise once he's within 20 yards of goal, but at least the movement is there. If that goes there isn't even hope left that his form will pick up. It's a myth that the armband really makes much of a difference - in my opinion anyway.
If Helik is leading the defence, he’s not doing a very good job of it. Just seen the goals, and thought that while Moon will get the flak for the first goal, Helik was on his heals letting their wide player get the cross in. No idea what he’s doing out there anyway, he seems easily dragged out of position this season
I would say today is Helik’s worst game for Barnsley. His standards are so much higher. Caught on his heels numerous times, poor making, poor clearances, no leadership, showing their players the wrong side. I’m not singing him out because we were terrible all over the pitch, but he’s been mentioned in this thread. Imagine that performance against someone like Fulham? Hull will be annoyed it wasn’t 5/6 nil.
I fear the scoreboard operator at Fulham will be the only person at the ground that is busier than Brad Collins.
When the physio came on to look at Cauley, I genuinely hoped he had injured himself enough to be taken off. I don't mean him any malice by that, but I can't see any other way that he'd be left out of the team despite his performances being absolutely dire....
I'd give it to Anderson. Positive, beaming, massively improved in a short space of time. I think he could be a leader in the making.
From what I’ve seen the only leader in the side is Brittain. He’s the one who seems to do the communicating. A few times this season I’ve heard him organising the back 3 from my seat in the East Stand. Anderson’s also pretty vocal, could hear him on Tuesday at times. Don’t really hear anything from anyone else except a bit of swearing & moaning at wayward passes
