Had a stab at predicting the league table based on incomings and outgoings at each team. Struggling to see past Derby at the minute, although they've still not replaced McGoldrick's goals in my opinion. If they keep Kane Wilson fit though, he's got the potential to be the most creative player in this league. Blackpool have recruited wisely, and although they've lost Yates, I think they're in a good position to bounce back. Portsmouth have done good business in the transfer window in my opinion and will be up there. I think we've still got work to do, but I certainly don't think we're much worse off than last season, although we won't know for sure until the season kicks off. At the other end, Cambridge look remarkably weaker this season, as do Cheltenham. Northampton haven't been particularly busy in the transfer market, and for me are the furthest behind. As for dark horses, Oxford's stats last season point to them being a much better side than the league table suggested, and they've certainly strengthened. I wouldn't be surprised to see them pushing for the top 6. I also think Orient and Stevenage have recruited well, and will be well clear of the bottom 4. 1. Derby 2. Blackpool 3. Portsmouth 4. Bolton 5. Barnsley 6. Oxford 7. Peterborough 8. Charlton 9. Reading 10. Burton 11. Wycombe 12. Wigan 13. Fleetwood 14. Lincoln 15. Leyton Orient 16. Exeter 17. Stevenage 18. Bristol Rovers 19. Port Vale 20. Shrewsbury 21. Carlisle 22. Cheltenham 23. Cambridge 24. Northampton
I think they've made a couple of decent signings, but I don't think they've sufficiently replaced Rak-Sakyi yet.
I also can’t see past Derby and Blackpool for the top 2. Be interesting to see how Bolton get on with losing the loaner keeper and right back they had. Both big players for them last season. Top 6 of Blackpool, Derby, us, Pompey, Charlton and Peterborough. That’s not in order though.
Really hard to predict but I expect strong challenges this time from Pompey and Charlton. Think Oxford will do better too. Add in all the relegated sides to the obvious ones like Derby and Bolton and it’s really tough to call. We ought to be somewhere around the play off mix but we’ll find out soon how much of a factor Duff was to our success last season. Plus I have serious doubts about our back line. Think we’ll make a slow start but then hopefully improve as new players bed in.
What makes Blackpool likely to be top 2? Derby I can see challenging. I don't think anyone will run away with it this season. Be disappointed not to be top 6, should be able to do that easily as long as we get an experienced CB in and Collins doesn't end up being a complete numpty!
No, I'd rather we went up automatically! Still blame @Mr C for cursing us by wanting a S.York's final!
Oxford are a good shout. Did QPR 5-0 yesterday and have already beaten Swansea. Lost 4-1 to Bristol City in-between.
We’ll finish comfortably mid table but can’t see us pushing any higher. As said, Charlton are favourites for me. Brought in some very good players and have a manager capable. Derby will be up there. Very experienced side and a manager who knows the league better than anyone. Charlton and Derby top two for me. Blackpool will push them close as they also look strong set up. Oxford, Bolton, Peterborough and Reading will also be up there. Think Stevenage could be a bit of a surprise and I still think Wigan could be an outside bet for a top six spot despite their point deductions. Shrewsbury, Northampton, Orient and Carlisle to be down at the bottom with Cheltenham and Cambridge not much better. Not sure on Port Vale yet. Andy Crosby isn’t the appointment they needed. They should be on par with Fleetwood, Exeter and Bristol Rovers with appointments that suit a project. Crosby doesn’t fill me with confident that they’ll be much better than the favourites for relegation.
Us and Blackpool for top 2. Pompey, Derby, Bolton and Wycombe for Playoffs. Port Vale, Stevenage, Cheltenham and Cambridge for the drop
Don't get the Derby love-in. Ageing, unbalanced squad. Think that they might get in the playoffs, but they'll be nowhere near automatic. Charlton and Oxford dark horses for me, and Lincoln if they sign another striker to partner Ben House. Barnsley - if we sign an experienced centre half and Styles stays, I think we'll win the league with something to spare. Even without Styles I'd expect us to be challenging for automatic promotion. Reading to drop straight through into L2.
I think Derby have recruited quite well though. They've signed mainly ageing players, but at the right age where they might get a good season out of them. Added to the fact that they've had a pre-season with a coach who knows how to get out of the league very well, and I think it's impossible to overlook them. I don't understand the hype around Charlton personally. They signed a couple of good players early in the window, but they lost a couple of important loaners from last season which they haven't replaced. I expect them to improve on last year, but the division is weaker. I hope you're right about Reading, and they still have a lot of work to do. But their signings so far have been quite good, albeit they haven't made many.
I usually av a dilly dally with all leagues trying to find out a decent promotion contender, i've predicted my top six, Derby as Champions as Archery says bought a few and strengthened an already good squad runners up Bolton, should go well this season, i then struggled but came up with these 4 as play off contenders Barnsley, Portsmouth, Peterborough and Reading. Gone for L/Orient as a good bet 50 quid e /way top 3 at 50 / 1, an the 3 i fancy for the drop are Cambridge, Cheltenham, an Carlisle, Well done again Archery love your posts.
