https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/league-one/table 7th, 9th and 5th to be played in the space of a week. We would have taken third in the league at this stage. If we have a good week against three of the early form sides we could be in a really good position.
Before we played Stevenage we averaged 2 points per game. Considering we have a new manager and players still getting to know each other, I think that’s a pretty solid start. Crap week, and some have thrown a hissy fit, but here we are, 3rd in the league with a chance next week to be on 16 points from 8 games and still some improving to do.
Rotherham seem to be doing well with there sign anyone who said yes policy, a policy that some used as an excuse to bash the club with
Totally agree, it's all about nicking points early doors while the confidence and momentum builds. We could be serious contenders when everyone is fully fit and things click.
To be fair to Rotherham they were signing players that should be good at this level, probably just needs a bit of patience for them to click.
Its interesting reading the Rotherham fans footymad comments. I see porky Evans is already coming under pressure now, after just 7 games. Most footy fans say that 10 games in (usually 5 home and 5 away) is the best time to be making the first comments and judgements. And I agree with that as well. Whether it be about possible promotion, or mid table, or even relegation. But its still nice to be 3rd at the moment, after these 7 games.
My one concern is we have conceded 11 goals ,we really need to be keeping more clean sheets. If we can sort it out at the back ,I honestly think we can make the play offs.
We definitely should’ve had a pint at home against Mansfield and threw 2 points away against Northampton, as daft as has it we could’ve been top without playing all that well really
Decent start but we've had an absolute cupcake run of fixtures. If we are still in third by the end of the year, I'll be ready to give Clarke freedom of the borough.
I don’t think there are any easy games. Of course some teams are better than others, but to have won 3 or our 4 away games is a great effort, especially bearing in mind 2 of them were v Burton, who always make themselves hard to beat, and Lincoln who finished last season very strongly, and our record there is poor. Stevenage away wasn’t a foregone conclusion after their efforts last season. Plenty of times over the last few seasons we’ve had to scrap it out with clubs that play to their strengths, and sometimes even the games we appear to have won comfortably, have seen us kept in the game by good goalkeeping or missed chances by the opposition. For me a wins a win. It’s a league where you always have to turn up or come unstuck.
A solid start! It's an extraordinary start in view of the awful way we're playing. God knows what would happen if we started to click and play well - probably win the Champions League beating Wednesday in the final I would think.
When do we consistently click and play well though? This is hopefully our third tilt at promotion and the previous two have been mixed. I’ve just come to accept that results are more important than the performances.
Most of the second half of the season under duff to be fair. the concern for me is that every season is the same to some extent. Spend the first 1/3 of it figuring it out and then kick on but have dropped enough points early on not to be top two.
Winning games and playing well aren’t the same thing though. One of the early games of that calendar year, Charlton away saw us play well and miss umpteen chances and lose 2-0. Take the last 10 games of that season following the Wednesday 4-2 win and we were largely poor. Only won 3 of those. The game prior to the Wednesday win, 1-0 at Wycombe saw a very poor performance but a late winner from Tedic, similarly a 0-0 draw at Bristol during that run was hard to watch. I just think that from this level down you can get away with not playing well and getting results because there isn’t the quality with which to punish.
Yeah you have to be at it from start to finish to get those top 2 places, as we’ve seen the last 2 seasons. Need to beat Stockport next week and we’ll be on the right track
On reflection, our start as been OK. And some of the abuse Collins got last season, was totally unwarranted . Patience is rare in football today.
