My daughter just got a acoustic guitar for christmas (her first christmas as a teen so time to move onto the heavy stuff). Does anyone have any advice on a good book to learn from? There seems to be lots of cheapie stuff with dvd etc in the remainder bookshops, but I want to get her something that actually teaches well and keeps her interested. There must be some serious axe-grinders on here who know something. Many thanks
Sorry I know nothing. But just thought Id say well done on gettin it her. I wish I'd learnt when I was younger. Most kids want electric too but def best to learn on acoustic so Im told. But there must be some old rockers on here mate, who can tell u a thing or two.
Depends what you need to know. If she's starting from scratch there's very little wrong with the KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) guide. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Playing-Guitar-Simple-Terry-Burrows/dp/0789459795
Absolutely no question - do not get her a book get her some lessons Books take forever and she'll lose interest before learning anything. Stringstocks in town seem to offer a varied package, that's if you can't get her any freebies through school.
RE: Might be a long way from W Midlands to tarn for each lesson Sorry mate - didn't realise, there's bound to be someone local with the correct CV. Hope she sticks to it though as it's extremely rewarding - although she'll probably piss you off for the next 10 years or so by playing only part of every tune she knows - that includes all the TV Themes that she's ever heard.
It'd still do the job mate. Chords etc are in there. As bigred says though, if you can get lessons, that's a much better bet.
I've got Guitar Legend 3 on the Wii and I'm headlining my own gigs around the world now. I've only played it for a couple of hours. I didn't even read the booklet. I think I'm gifted.
