I knew it was very close to Wilson leaving and scowern signing don't think he even played under Wilson so the club wouldn't let a manager who wasn't performing and was close to sack sign players. Like I said you say Wilson and Johnson were both bang average look at the win ratio and the dross Wilson brought in especially in the relegation from the championship Wilson was below average in his second spell he will never manage at higher that league 1 again.
Saying something that you think doesn't make it a fact. I'd say Danny probably won't manage above league . You mistake fairness on my part for some sort of nostalgia fest. I think it would have been fair to review the manager at the end of the season. Same for Johnson at the end of this season. I also think Johnson will get found out pretty quickly and will soon revert to the tippy tippy nonsense that we endured earlier in the season. As for dross we can go round in circles. But if we take Hammill out of the equation then our best players are Wilson signings.
Watkins has been probley our second best performer behind winnall this season most assists from open play and has chipped in with his share of goals. The dross Johnson brought in were loans thank god not players like frimpong turnbull lita treacy on big wages. Anyway like you say you three year old could get this squad to 12th so we will obviously be in play offs when Lee goes and we get an above average man in. We have had below average in Wilson bang average in Johnson. Who would be your choice for next manager just out of curiosity?
Ha Ha Ha , Theyres nothing I like better than someone bringing in the Spelling Police to get there point across ,so their HTFH
Hourihane is in a different league to honest toiler Watkins surely you can see that. His improvement this season had been immense and you have to credit both the player and coaching staff for that.
Dunno about the next manager. Someone who fits the template outlined by the club yesterday. Paul Tisdale maybe. There's no one we could attract that I think would improve us dramatically. With Hammill fit any team would have a chance in this league. I guess let the dust settle if no outstanding candidate is available then bide your time til one comes along. Holloway would be good comedy value not that I necessarily think he would do a good job
You make some really good balanced points in both posts. Id still argue LJ is bang avergae. We are 12th in a 24 team division and in the final of a cup that covers the bottom two divisions of a four team pro league. It couldn't be more average.
You honestly think signing scowern was all down to Wilson who scouted him Wilson was sacked Feb 12th after losing to fleetwood and not won in the league scince November against Sheff United must have been a busy January 7 games
Well the club's programmes must be wrong then though some were as sub. We had won 4 out of 5 home games in that period. So not sure how we managed to not win any but you probably meant away games if I'm being generous. I think the transfer committee outlined potential signings then referred them to Wilson who then made a decision on who to sign. That process was outlined in person to me by BM unless he was not being truthful
You know I ment we hadn't won away scince November under Wilson. Can't help but think you have a soft spot for wilson
Would like to see the wage bill for players under Danny's seven points off play offs to Lees Fifth off play offs wages cut, playing staff numbers cut .not a fair comparison is IMO anyway ..Lees leaving a better team than Danny did imo
It would have been our fourth if they weren't building Wembley when we played the play off final at the millennium stadium.
Can't help but think you've got a hatred for him. I think it's sad that this thread has descended into another Wilson Vs Johnson debate. Done to death that topic. Both were good/**** in equal measures. One was backed, t'other wasn't. The club wasn't loyal to Danny, but Danny wasn't loyal to the club previously either, and whilst the club were loyal to LJ, he's not repaid that loyalty. It's done, over, finished. Good luck to em both at their new clubs. We're bigger than either of them and bigger than the next bloke to take up the head coach position. We move on. FWIW, I think Lee needs to find some consistency in future. He seems to get his sides on good runs, and bad runs. No middle ground. Same at Oldham. For Bristol's sake, they have to hope he's about to take them on a good run. Because even if he for the first time in his career gets a side to go on an average run, it won't be enough to save them. And that'd be a shame, to see him back at Oakwell in a few months...
Not really hatred but how someone can call Johnson bang average and try defend Wilson who's second spell was poor to say the least is beyond me. Your right though the subject has been done to death. And your right in saying no manager is bigger than the club we have been going over 125 years we will do just fine with or without Lee jay
Anyone who saw us promoted under Wilson would have to be strange not to have a soft spot for him but football moves on and I thought it was a bad idea at the time for him to return though our options seemed very limited at the time. I wouldn't have appointed him but I wouldn't have sacked him when they did. The sacking was more about moving to the Head Coach model than anything and it is a model I buy into and Wilson was a poor fit for it. I was underwhelmed by Johnson's appointment and remain so.
If you're 4 or under, yes it's once in a lifetime. What is once in a lifetime for most is losing 8 in a row.
Wilson will always be a legend for the 1997 season in my eyes and yes should have never been appointed a second time. As for Lee Jay you won't be under welded for much longer he will be gone.
