WTF? Southend have, apparently, asked Leeds for their game to be moved back to it's original date as they 'have a match against Barnsley on the Friday'. It will no longer be on SKY either, though it isn't clear whether this is Southend or SKY's decision. So now we have to play Southend on Friday night meaning the majority of people can't go, when Southend no longer need it moving to Friday. Friday - Monday is the same time gap as Saturday - Tuesday. Doesn't make sense.
This really is a complete farce Obviously nobody gives a flying toss about the people who try to go to matches. We have to ask for the game to be put back on the Saturday surely?
Seems like a very underhand trick indeed. Do you reckon that they're still smarting over their previous FA Cup exit at the hands of the Reds? They certainly were a tad miffed at the outcome weren't they?
RE: Which would that be? time for revenge then .onward and upward could be the start of our away winning streak. i've booked a day off work for friday ,taking advantage of the free bus and hope other fans make the away end that noisy it seems like a home match for the reds. its the fa cup for gods sake! just one negative point friday night traffic m25 very busy ,massive traffic jams, what should be a four hour max journey could end up bieng 6.
RE: Which would that be? Whats wrong with both teams playing Saturday and Tuesday? Is it to keep our fans away giving them a better chance?
Our game should be moved back to the Saturday then There can't be any other decision. The argument that Southend will get a bigger home crown on Friday, as some of their fans go to watch London Prem teams on Saturdays is nonsence. The only Prem team playing at home on the Saturday is Arsenal. Most of Southend's fans go and watch Spurs, if anybody. Spurs will be at Man U on the Sunday or knocked out. Anyway, I couldn't give a flying **** either way, as I'm not going.
In all the Southend furore That last line is the most honest thing that's been said about it all. No fcker on here except Albatross and his crew would have gone anyway.
Woops! The brandy's addled my brain methinks... i was thinking about the late equaliser at Roots Hall which was a tad controversial. For some reason, i can't recall the replay at Oakwell much (clown)
Statement From Southend LEEDS UNITED: CLUB STATEMENT Posted on: Fri 11 Jan 2008 Southend Chairman Ron Martin has today issues the following statement: This match was scheduled for Monday 28 January, kick off 7.45 pm, and to be shown live on Sky. Following Southend United's successful Third Round tie in the FA Cup and draw against Barnsley, this match is now to be played on Friday evening at Roots Hall at 7.45 pm. On learning this Leeds United thought it unfair that Southend United would have one day's additional rest as Leeds United are scheduled to play Luton Town on Saturday 26 January. Unfortunately Luton Town would not agree to rescheduling the Leeds United match leaving Leeds with no alternative other than to play on the Saturday - they say at a disadvantage to the Leeds players. Accordingly, in the interests of fairness, Southend United have agreed to reschedule the match on Tuesday 29 January and give up this revenue from the live Sky fixture. We nevertheless felt the loss of the £30,000 revenue from Sky would, at least in part, be compensated by the additional fans attending the match from both clubs. There were a number of interests that all the clubs involved needed to consider but the rescheduled date to the Tuesday is I feel the most equitable arrangement. We are grateful to Barnsley for attending at Roots Hall on the Friday night and can understand Leeds United's concern that their players may be disadvantaged through lack of rest. The Club apologies for any inconvenience that this rearrangement may cause, albeit through matters beyond our control. Ronald Martin Chairman
