Not a leeds basher by any stretch but they have now sold Matt Smith for £500k to Fulham and have replaced him (kinda) with loanees and the like, mostly no one has heard of from abroad. When I was winding up my leeds mate (after the McCormack sale) I told him, that his chairman they would be lucky to spend £250,000 of the £11 million, now he has lost another player, who has scored some goals for them btw. Oh dear, oh dear, not good times these
I hope they go into administration again resulting in relegation and starting league one with a 30 deduction and a 5 year transfer embargo.
Cellinio did say the first thing he was going to do when he bought the club was to buy the ground back (£16m). They currently pay £1.4m a year in rent. Looks like the McCormack money is going towards this. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/aug/03/leeds-united-massimo-cellino-elland-road
My mate reckons Celleno or whatever is name is, told the faithful he would get some players. Think the masses wanted some decent replacements, who they have heard of, not loanees. Wonder how long before it starts kicking off!! Pity
Funny enough I can remember my dad, who was scouting for Middlesboro at the time, watching McCormack playing for Motherwell. They put in glowing reports and were told Barnsley had shown interest but were scared off by the fee (think it was £400k) and wages, unfortunately Steve Gibson wanted some Brazilian kid who played abroad. and scored loads, unfortunately didn't do the same for Boro, lazy devil he was. I know there's loads of stories like this but still £11 million eh? would av been nice in our bank for players.
No mate, Colin, been doing it years and years. Was at Barnsley at one time when we had Jim Iiley, then followed his mate Mick Buxton at Huddesfield. He had David Hurst down at Leeds road, as a young un but they dithered and thank god we signed him. He had loads to do with the youth teams n stuff and bringing lads in. It used anger him when others banged on about who they had brought in, on the back of my dad, too much of a decent guy to say anything though. He had some classic stories (still does). His last club was Swansea but kind of packed it in now but does odd favour watching some players with some of his mates, who still value his opinion. He does know the current chief scout bloke at Barnsley too, who actually came from Huddersfield and says he's good.
Ok....my mate worked with George Boardman (ex-Barnsley player) who also did scouting for Middlesboro.
