    </p></td></tr><tr><td><p class="headtypea"></p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><p class="headtypeb">South Wales Echo</p></td></tr></tbody></table><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="400" border="0"><tbody><tr><td colspan="3"></td></tr><tr><td colspan="3"><p class="headtypea" align="left">SAM Hammam was today staying silent over the decision that could kill off Cardiff City. </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">As its major shareholder, Hammam could block the board&rsquo;s new proposal for the club&rsquo;s restructure &ndash; including the development of a new stadium.</p><p class="headtypea" align="left">This could and could send the club into administration within weeks.</p><p class="headtypea" align="left">Hammam today told the Echo: &ldquo;I have no comment to make.&rdquo;</p><p class="headtypea" align="left">Today&rsquo;s silence is in stark contrast to last month when it was announced he was stepping down as chairman after six years in charge. </p>Hammam said at the time: &ldquo;Now someone else will take us to the Premiership &ndash; I&rsquo;m no Abramovich.

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;City have grown just too powerful for me now. This is the best thing for the club and the fans.</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;Personally, I am shattered, ,&rdquo; he said, having stepped down after six years in charge. &ldquo;but in my mind it is crystal clear. The only thing in my mind was to do what is best for the fans and the club.</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;This club proved to be far too big for one individual to handle &ndash; unless of course you are an Abramovich or a Glazer. I am not that.&rdquo;</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">But City&rsquo;s new chairman Peter Ridsdale said today: &ldquo;The situation at the football club is we need enough money to trade and need the at cash injection the proposal will bring.</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;If the shareholders vote against it we do not have the money to continue trading as football club.</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;The new proposal is the only route we have for the club to survive and clearly this club needs a new stadium to continue.</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;Clearly if this does not take place there is no future for this club in the Championship.&rdquo;</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

    </p></td></tr><tr><td><p class="headtypea"></p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><p class="headtypeb">South Wales Echo</p></td></tr></tbody></table><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="400" border="0"><tbody><tr><td colspan="3"></td></tr><tr><td colspan="3"><p class="headtypea" align="left">CARDIFF council warned today the deal to build a new 30,000-seater Cardiff City stadium would not go ahead unless Sam Hammam walks away. </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">Council leader Rodney Berman was speaking after developer Paul Guy warned the Championship club would be facing financial Armageddon unless a financial restructure was voted through at an emergency general meeting on January 12.</p><p class="headtypea" align="left">Councillor Berman said: &ldquo;We could not enter into a deal with the club because we did not know who the club owed money to through the loan notes. </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;The restructuring took that problem away and if that problem is back we could enter into a deal with Cardiff City.</p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;Getting a new stadium is crucial to the future of the club. </p>

    </p><div class="center" id="mpuad" style="display: none">&ldquo;We all know that Cardiff City need a new stadium if its ambitions are to be realised.&rdquo;</div>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">Ramesh Patel, a Labour member of the economic scrutiny committee, said: &ldquo;If Sam Hammam remains in the background there is a huge risk that the stadium will go pear-shaped.&rdquo;</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">City fan Councillor Michael Michael today described the public arguments over the club&rsquo;s future as bizarre.</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;This really needs to be resolved as soon as possible so Dave Jones (City manager) can carry out developing a team that is capable of playing in the Premiership in a new stadium.&rdquo;</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">It was only earlier this month after years of delays and wrangling that Cardiff council&rsquo;s executive gave the go-ahead for the long-awaited development of the 30,000 capacity stadium at Leckwith.</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">In a statement on the club&rsquo;s future financing, Peter Ridsdale said: &ldquo;PMG Estates (run by Paul Guy), who have already made a &pound;3m short term loan facility available to the club, are due to make a further &pound;9m loan available as a part of the new stadium funding process.</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;They have indicated that these monies will not be forthcoming if the planned financial and management restructuring are not voted through at the EGM.&rdquo;</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">Brian Morgan, of Cardiff Business School, said: &ldquo;There&rsquo;s a bit of a final warning going on here, that they really mean what they say. </p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;The financial structure is in the balance it seems to me.</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;There are one or two people prepared to take the business forward and invest a lot of money in the future of the club, but they really want assurances that the financial and management structures are in place before they come in.&rdquo;</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">Gwyn Davies, of the Valleys Rams supporters&rsquo; club, spoke to Mr Hammam on Sunday and today said the businessman was disappointed he had not been able to push through the stadium and take the Bluebirds to the Premiership.</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">He said: &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t think Sam could take us any further.</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;It was too much money for him and this was a way for him to leave with his head held high.&rdquo;</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">He accused the new money men of playing &ldquo;hardball&rdquo; and said: &ldquo;It&rsquo;s not fair on the fans. We are being held to ransom.</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&quot;Peter Ridsdale has stated in the past that it was a done deal and Sam can&rsquo;t turn back. </p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;How can they suddenly start saying this now?&rdquo;</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&quot;I&rsquo;m in the dark, we haven&rsquo;t got a clue what&rsquo;s going on and it&rsquo;s very worrying. </p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;Things are going bad on the pitch and we are going backwards off the pitch. </p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;Was it a false dawn?&rdquo;</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">City season ticket holder Mark Hansen, 25, a council worker, of Pentwyn, Cardiff, said: &quot;It's up to Sam &ndash; no-one can make him sell, but if it's better for the club then I think he should. </p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">&ldquo;City need new blood to take through the new stadium.&rdquo;</p>

    </p><p class="headtypea" align="left">Fellow season ticket holder Mathew Ashcroft, 22, a trainee accountant, of Pontprennau, Cardiff, said: &ldquo;Sam has done his best for City over the years, but it&rsquo;s time for him to go now.&rdquo;</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

    "I’m in the dark, we haven’t got a clue what’s going on and it’s very worrying. " ... No change there then !

    And what would a pear-shaped stadium look like ? Might make a change from all those new lego ones :D
