Just watched this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJHL-yJ9tio Glavin really was the best. Did anybody go to Leeds in the early 80s when we won 2-1, Glavin won the ball in our box after a Leeds corner, beat a couple of Leeds players and sprinted clear of the box, exchanged passes on the half way line (with David Johnson I think) and scored at the other end? Sheer magic. Wonderful player.
To all those who never saw him just go to about 3mins and see how the crowd reacts in the brewery stand, the full back passes the ball about 20 yards to the king and before he even collects it the crowd are going mental, that kind of thing hasn't happened since, whenever he got the ball the atmosphere was electric, we always expected something good to happen and he rarely let us down. Redfearn best of all time, pah, dunt come within a hundred mile the King, he was a brilliant all round footballer with an absolutely perfect first touch, poetry in motion. And what about some of those crowds, the best times for me at oakwell, the premiership was good but I have never felt excitement like I did in those times, electric.
absolute legend. as much as i loved redders there hasn't been anybody to touch glavin in ability, hunger and football inteligence in the whole time i've watched the reds, about 1965.
Thats true Marlon, I once talked to guy who could go back to the Robledo's and he said that as far as he was concerned Glavin was the best player that ever pulled on a BFC shirt.
absolutelyt'owd man we have been very priveledged to see such a player at oakwell. was very dissapointed when he didn't get barnsleys greatest ever player award, but we know different
It is, but it very nearly became 1st division (prem) football and I'm certain we would have survived that division at that time.
