Never trust people who have both a surname as a christian name and a christian name as a surname! nt

Haha, that's exactly what I said a few weeks back

Me and one of the London lot were chatting about it on here. Though we came up with a few examples to prove me wrong

I did discover a while ago, that the "surname as a forename" thing is prevalent in the Southern states of the US, and is usually that the first born son takes the maiden name of the mother - explains some of the wacky names heard when watching NFL for example!

You'll like this - Puppet Boy:

Team against Hull away a year ago v the team last night.
I also think we'll be paying significantly more wages.
Are we getting good value for a squad which cost nearly 5 times as much as the previous one?
My apologies for the odd mistake - it's all off the top of my bald head ...

Hull v Barnsley 2006:
Colgan - £0
Hassell - £0
Reid - £0
Kay - £0
Heckingbottom - £0
McIndoe - £125k
(Williams ) - £0
Togwell - £0
Howard - £0
Devaney - £0
Hayes - £150k
Richards - £0
(Wright ) - £50k
Subs not used: Letheren - £0k, Austin - £0
Total Cost = £325k

Hull v Barnsley 2007:
Muller - £200k
Werling - £0
Nyatanga - Loan
Foster - £100k
(Christensen ) - £300k
Souza - £0
Campbell-Ryce - £200k
(Ricketts ) - £0
Howard - £0
McCann - £125k
(Devaney ) - £0
Anderson de Silva - Loan
Mostto - £400k
Odejayi - £200k
Subs not used: Colgan - £0, Kozluk - £0
Total Cost = £1525k

I'm still amazed that the area that's been the weakest at this club for 10 years, the defence, has had barely any cash spent on it in a decade.

I'm being too harsh.

The best one I have heard was from my next door neighbour.

He is called Andrew Marcus, and in his class there was also a Marcus Andrew. What are the odds eh? It was even more confusing because of the fact register's are done backwards, ie Surname, then firstname (when written at least), so it caused even more problems

A comparison, on paper

Richards or Odejayi?
Wright or Mostto?
Reid or Souza?
Colgan or Muller?

when we left that game last year, we still thought we'd struggle, and we did. 11 games into this season and we're top half on 17 points, the table doesnt lie, we must've improved, and based wholly on what I've seen and my average memory from last year, Im confident that we'll not be in a relegation scrap come April/May. We were pretty poor against Burnley in the first half but came away with a point. We were awful for the majority of the game last night, and we were lucky it only ended 3 nil. But 1 point from 6 doesnt reverse where we've got to thus far.

Our squad is stronger than last season in every department. Am I convinced about every single one of the new signings? No. I reckon if 8 of the 13 we brought in are still in the frame come end of the season Davey will have proved he's a genius. I've criticised him for tinkering with the side (Newcastle away in particular) but now I'm thinking he needs to make some changes. And the difference from last season is he can bring players in that can legitimately stake a claim and improve us. As opposed to giving Dale Tonge, Robbie Williams and Tommy Wright a run out. Are we getting value for money? Jurys still out, but given what we've brought in and what we've achieved so far, I think there's a few proper bargains in that lot. £700k for Franny Jeffers. Just that.

Richards or Odejayi?

Tough one. Although Richards had scored 5 league goals by this time last year, so I think I'd have to go with him.

Did a job for us for a while

but missed some of the most glaring sitters I've seen in umpteen years. I remember Ritchie going on about how we created chances but didnt take them, Richards was the main culprit. Odejayi is much quicker, mobile, direct, more likely to create something for himself and young enough and keen enough to improve. He'll get better, and he'll finish with more goals this season than Richards, for sure.

Compare this:

Hassell or Foster?
Kay or Souza?
McIndoe or McCann?
Hayes or Mostto?

We had Coulson on the bench on Saturday.
That's how strong we are.

8 out of 13 "being in the frame" isn't the point.
I think maybe 3 signings have been successful, which is a pretty poor return.
If 8 of his 13 signings are in the team & we get relegated after he's spent 5 times as much on players - then he'll not be a genius in my eyes.

Big gamble.
Jury still out.
It's his team - he's been backed financially ... and, in my opinion, he's bought some right toss.

I agree that Kayo has potential:

But "young enough and keen enough to improve".
How old do you think Richards is?

Marc Richards - 08-07-1982
Kayode Odejayi - 21-02-1982

Ooops.
I think you'll find that Marc is younger.

Ooodav thunkt dat?

Nope.

I think we've deserved the results we've had.
I also think that after bringing in 13 players (15 if you include the dregs from last season) that no fecker knows us.
Burnley & Hull showed that if you close Howard down - that we can be beaten quite easily.
I think we may have been sussed 12 games into the season & that you might have seen us peak already.

I think this squad is pretty rubbish & it's cost quite a lot of money, by our standards.
The sale of Muller will balance everything out though.

i think results could have gone against us, Charlton, Soton and Stoke where it could have been 1 point not 5.

I think that is a really good question that requires some consideration

the home matches (as that is all I can comment on) have been a combination of hard work, good football at times, inspirational play at times, disrespect by opposing teams (although this has probably ended now) and luck

I was uneasy after last Saturday, last night has been analysed to death, if teams neutralise our midfield as both Burnley and Hull have done, or the midfield of choice is collectively having a bad day at black rock, we havent got much left

I dont think it has been down to luck but I hope this is not the start of a downward spiral where we are relying upon luck

I wouldnt be bothered if mccann never pulled on a tarn shirt again

hes spineless through and through.

Doesnt want the ball and when he does shits himself and given it to whoever is closest - we carry him and play with 10 men when he is on the pitch. Half decent free kick but not worth his place in the team.
