NOW WE ARE TALKING !!!.............well done SD and Shep

First real signing for me this one
    Fantastic news !!!
At last - a proper goal scoring striker
Pity Devaney is out tomorrow and pity McIndoe has gone because crosses into the middle and this guy will score millions of goals

    REDS AGREE CONSTANTINE DEAL

    <img src ="http://www.barnsleyfc.premiumtv.co.uk/javaImages/ed/f/0,,10309~3084269,00.jpg">

BARNSLEY FC can confirm that a deal has been agreed with Port Vale Football Club for the transfer of striker Leon Constantine.

Reds striker Marc Richards will move to Vale Park as part of the agreement.

The deal is subject to both players agreeing personal terms and completing the formalities of a permanent transfer, including medicals.

Constantine started his professional career with Millwall and had spells with Leyton Orient, Partick Thistle, Brentford, Southend United, Peterborough United and Torquay United before arriving at Vale Park in November 2005. The 28-year-old has netted 30 goals in 67 games for the Valiants.

Marc signed for Barnsley in August 2005 and has made 74 first team appearances, bagging 17 goals.

Yet if we'd had him upfront at the end of January, people would have been slaughtering him as crap.

IS he injury prone or summat

Nearly 29 years old and only played 145 league games?

Scored 59 goals in them games plus 35 as a sub, a goal every 3 games, not bad.

RE: i'll never forget that 2nd goal against forest.

he always gave his best, just let down by lack of ability.

Not on a footballing level I'm not.

I'm all for trying to reward the heroes of promotion seasons with a shot at the first team in the season after, but sorry Marc - just not cutting it at this level. It's odd, because on his day he honestly did look good enough. Adequate performances seemed too few and far between, sadly.

Glad we have signed a recognised striker at long last - hopefully this will make up for the disappointment of Leon Knight.

    Agreed

Shame we couldn't have kept him as well for the squad, but I guess that Port Vale wanted a replacement so fair enough

    Excellent signing

just logged on and I am very happy indeed to hear about this. At last adecent signing I think swapping Richards will be good because Constantine can hold up the ball in a similar way, but have more skill and flare as well.

Very happy - we have started to strengthen the squad a good performance tomorrow and in the cup and I will feel a lot better about our chances.

RE: Kiegan Parker would have been a better lg1 striker to go after

and we could have got him too, too late now i think he's agreed to stay at blackpool.

Constantine - hes atleast 6'2 and built like a brick **** house

i wonder if he'll be able to hold the ball up and have presence?

hes not only powerful but has pace to get in behind too.

id also go as far as saying his goalscoring record is better than Marc Richards.

    Great deal, well pleased!
