His performance in Django Unchained was nothing short of immaculate, yet he has been overlooked again.

Just proves that the Oscars are a complete and utter joke.

Maybe we should make a approach? Does anyone know if he applied? Nothing on oddschecker.

Even if he'd made the short list I doubt he'd have beaten Daniel Day lewis who I think is nailed on to win it this year. Regardless of his strong performance the nominations for best actor is pretty impressive - he had some very strong competition.

    Daniel Day Lewis - Lincoln
Bradley Cooper - Silver Linings Playbook
    Hugh Jackman - Les Miserables
    Joaquin Phoenix - The Master
    Denzel Washington - Flight

Only seen Lincoln out of all those, and yes, DDL is brilliant as always.

Still, Di Caprio (and even Jackson) should have been nominated. The scene where he slices his hand open yet incorporates it into his actual performance is a piece of brilliant improvisation.

DDL should have won the Oscar for his performance in 'Gangs of New York' which coincidentally also had Di Caprio in it but he lost out that year to Adrien Brody in the pianist (I think). Di Caprio was excellent in Gangs of New York.

I watched The Pianist again last night, Adrian Brody thoroughly deserved the award.

Has he ever managed a football team, does anyone know? :)

    Yes, excellent film.

I actually enjoyed Road to Perdition that year and even though I love LOTR, I felt it was a better all-round film than the Two Towers and should have been nominated.

QT films generally get overlooked :-( can't wait to see the film. Looking forward to Lincoln - day Lewis does look fantastic though

DDL trained for over a year, and read over 100 books on Abraham Lincoln (allegedly).

    That's some dedication.

There's a Barnsley fan I know who works for a very famous actor in L.A. (everyone on here would know him) and he told me recently that the Oscars is all one big political machine - he says that the actors who get a vote, vote for the directors and producers with whom they are best buddies (no surprise there then) - and with the hope I'm sure, that they can get more work out of them.

Again, I'm sure this is not a big surprise to anyone, just confirms what we already knew.

DDL is a legend - one of the best character actors there is. He was brilliant in gangs of New York as well
