They shall grow not old, As we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, Nor the years condemn, At the going down of the sun And in the morning We will remember them. <img src ="http://www.rap.ucar.edu/staff/park/okeeffe_red_poppy.jpg"> In Flanders fields the poppies blow, Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky, The larks, still bravely singing, fly, Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. <img src ="http://www.worthysconservationvolunteers.org.uk/Photo%20Gallery/Miscelleneous/Poppy%20Field%20Well%20House%20Lane%20June%202007%2010inch.jpg">
Also, a special mention To members of the BBS who have family members and friends on active service throughout the world today. God bless and God Speed. From The Big Lils.
The Legion need support now more than ever Shameful that they support our injured boys & girls, the widows, windowers & families of those we lose in conflicts. The government send them out ill prepared and defended & leave the Legion to deal with much of the outcome. I for one put that extra bit in for my poppy this year
For all those people who have lost their lives in any of the senseless wars in the history... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ECyAR3mv4UQ
£30m raised last year with the poppy appeal Then again - if everyone bought one at an average of a quid they'd get even more.
i led the remembrance service at our church last year and used this poem, I also used the names of some of those who had died in the current conflicts. I researched a fair bit for it and it was amazing and humbling to read some of the stories of heroism and sad to know so many have died in conflicts which some would question whether we should even be involved let alone all the previous conflicts.
Thanks for that. Where was that 'poppy field' it looks a bit like the one we could see above Worsbrough Res in the summer.
According to the caption on google the spectacular red-poppy field is at Well House Lane, Headbourne Worthy.

RE: 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month nt Just made 72 men stop work to observe the silence in our warehouse....2 minutes to remember what they gave is nothing. Did anyone chat to the old guy selling poppies ouside the odeon on Saturday. Top man, talking to him about his badges he was wearingetc, said his medals were on show for the weekend etc. He laughed when my 8 year old daughter asked if he was in the war films dad watched, he said no, i was there love. He smiled even more when she said, "i have never met a real hero before"</p> Think he enjoyed that. I did.</p>
