You people. I read some of the posts on here and just laugh. I bet there isn't an handful of you who have played football at a decent standard, no I don't mean a kickabout with the dog in the back garden. When will you get it through your tiny, microscopic minds - we are Barnsley FC. Not Barcelona. The football you see on T.V, on MoTD, on Sky - it's top level stuff. It's the place every footballer wants to be and it's where every fan want's to be watching...but not here, not at Oakwell. We are an average Championship team, nothing more - nothing less (at this stage). We've gone out in the summer in a bid to increase the size of the squad and consolidate in this league, NOT get promotion, consolidate and build for the future. The players that have been brought in are all young men, wanting to improve, wanting to do their bit for the team. 2 games lost, 2 poor performances and all of a sudden, the season is over, everything is going down the pan: 'Davey is *****, sack him' they shout. 'Odejayi is rubbish, get him on the bench' they cry. So we've spent £1 million on some players, big deal. That's peanuts in todays game - do you people really think it's going to bring success to this club over night? Think again. Case in point - Miguel Mostto: The guy flies 4000 miles across the planet, to a place called Barnsley. Where the **** is that? He must've been thinking, do I really want to go to a place where I know no-one, where I don't speak the language and leaving all my friends and family behind? He thought, Yes. He wanted to give the English game a crack and do his best for Barnsley FC. Imagine what it must feel like, to go to a place - miles and miles from your own home, your OWN COUNTRY! A place where you know no-one, I know for one - I'd be scared, and it would probably affect my football - give the lad time, 10 games just isn't enough, not nearly enough. Some players go an entire season before they finally adjust. But one things for sure, you don't have a 1:2 goal ration in ANY professional league unless you are a good player, he does. Give him time, I for one am behind you Miguel. Kayode Odejayi - £200k and you guys expect Thierry Henry, TWO-HUNDRED GRAND = Peanuts, what did you think we were going to get for that? But instead of shouting and hollering at him...get behind him, he plays for US, he wants to do well for US, he didn't come here to play bad or try to take the team down. He's a young lad, he needs confidence, once he gets it and he learns to adapt his skills to this division - he'll become a good player, getting on his back simply wont help - it wont. The same goes for the rest of the team. A good start and suddenly everyone thinks 'Oh joy, the glory days are back at Oakwell'...only for reality to hit home, 2 defeats - *Shock*...and suddenly everyone is facing the prospect of another soul torturing season. Get real. It's a blip, not even that. We have a decent team, we will win more than we lose - and probably draw a fair chunk. The goal is and always was to stabalise in this league, to build for the future and to slowly progress - promotion is a long way off, sure theres a chance for anyone, every season - but for us to 'fail' in achieving that is not a warrant to get on the teams back, to lose a few games, to put in a few bad performances - keep the faith, keep backing the lads. Football is NOT an easy game, anyone who has played at a decent level knows that there are many talented players out there, some exceptional ones who make the game look easy - but its not. Far from it. IF you want win after win, and good performances every single week - go support Man Utd or Arsenal. I'm sure you'll still find something to complain at...wont you? Just think on, The lads are't trying to play bad. They aren't trying to lose. They aren't missing the net or conceding on purpose. They are trying. They are. Think about it, the next time YOU are about to boo or chant or hiss or scorn. Would it be easier to just clap and actually get behind YOUR team, or simply pour scorn over a team ful of young men who are doing their best out there? Come on, lets get behind em - let's cheer em on. UP THE REDS!!!!
Quality post. 12 in the table and two winnable home games coming up. Could be in the top 6 again come next Tuesday. Knocking certain players doesn’t help with confidence does it?
I envisaged that gay Brazilian hairdresser off Big Brother from a while back. Whilst wearing a tight fitted satin pink shirt.
I hadn't applied the 'Points of View' narration concept to it. Having read it again in a different voice, I conclude it's nothing more than a jumped up rant from an angry old woman from Newcastle, who should know better.
BUT..... Good post and whilst I agree with most of what you've said the bit I can't personally get my head round is what's happened to cause the change?? It's not like we've got a couple of injuries to key players or one or two are having a bad game. They've gone from all playing at the top of their game to all playing poorly. I just don't get it, surely it can't be coincidental that they are all having a poor spell at the same time. Something must have happened behind the scenes or something? I think peoples anger is mainly due to their lack of understanding how/why/what has caused the change. It just doesn't make sense!
RE: BUT..... er..... I think it might be me. I've been in Aus all season until the Burnley game. Seen that and the Hull game and we've been poor. It's known as the Oxford Red jinx. I'll **** off again dont worry. Sos
Brazilian...Gay...Tight...!!! Awww guys, Tyketical, Hartog, Westie That's made my day. Actually, now I realise that that's why I wrote this. All I wanted to do was arouse men. I have decided to retire from the game to pursue my sickening hunger for ****. Oh yes. Mmmmmmmmm. Fools.
Good post agree with 99% of it. However if you haven't played football at a decent standard it doesn't automatically mean you know nothing about football or not much about football. Other than that top post!
A post that no doubt is very well constructed with some decent points and for that I applaud you. However, there is a touch of arrogance (dont' really support Leeds do you?!) about presuming people who haven't played at a decent standard should keep quiet. I for one have played very competative football throughout my life and whilst to a lot of people it wouldn't be a 'decent standard' for others they would be out of their depth. However you don't need to be Prime Minister to have a valid view on politics just as you don't need to have played the game at a decent standard to have a valid opinion about football. Simply put, a number of contributors on this board - just like other fans boards - make comments that are 'knee jerk' to say the least. Some are made in hope rather than real belief. I remember only a couple of weeks back someone started a thread entitled 'when did you realise Simon davey was a good manager'. What ****** hey??!! - you would have thought Davey had got us into the Prem as oppossed to beating Bristol City 3-0. On the other hand it is wrong to start saying he is a bad manager after a couple of poor showings. It does however only take a few bad results for the pendulum to swing the other way and the inevitable 'Davey out' shouts together with criticism of certain players. My own thoughts are that physically the team is stronger throughout than last season. Quality wise defensively we are slightly better though still issues to be sorted, midfield similar to last season ie fair but would struggle without Howard - but up front it takes no genius to know we have big problems. It would be hard to argue we are better or even similar in this department than we were last year. Out of everything you said I think you should re evaluate your Mossto comments. We all understand the issues with the language and culture but I'm sorry that just won't wash if we happen to get relegated through lack of a scorer. Miguel gets well paid and if he had any doubts he woudn't settle he should have turned us down. Maybe Davey is more to blame than Miguel for not thinking through such a massive gamble and it's potential consequences.
I think you mean this. Read it all again.
http://www.barnsleyfc.org.uk/bbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=85789&posts=71#M554294

Again, well said apart from the playing levels The likes of Mrk Bright, Paul Merson, Chris Kamara et al talk utter drivel. I hear far more sense from mates who play Sunday League.
Agree with most of that but The playing level stuff is rubbish Jose Maurhino never played at the top level... I cant sing even to church choir standard but can have an opinion that Catherine Jenkins is a better singer than Katie Price etc etc But I do agree that the one almost certain way to ensure you dont get the best out of a player is to get on his back - hurl abuse from the stands, boo him etc when he fails to play like Ronaldo or Sol Campbel.
