we need serious investment in players if we are going to survive. whoever even mentions play-offs again...well. just don't.

It all comes down to money, but will Shep and Cryne give Davey more money when they can see that not all of his transfer dealings have been a success. We'll be ok, a win against Colchester and Davey will once again wear the crown. Thankfully for us their are three teams at the botton of the table that seem to be worse than us at the present time. :)

Agree We Need To Spend Cash.......

but it's easy for us fans to say, as we aren't expected to back the manager with funds, even though our crowds are horrible (sounding a bit like SM there).

well the crowds are poor because

barnsley dont have that many fans really, not ones who will attend all games no point just saying look at the big games where are they? they are people who just wont come to all the games. Added to football been very expensive to watch (not just Barnsley) and the not so great to watch style of our football, and a bunch of talentless strikers i would say our attendances are about what id expect

it is too expensive. and yes, the quality of the strikers is so so poor.

    If only yesterday we had......

same formation but with the following players......

    Muller

    Foster, Souza, Nyatnaga, Werling
    Wallwork
    JCR, Howard, De Silva, Leon
    Macken

We may have stood a chance!!!!

    The key issues:

    1. Attendances - Wigan, Blackburn and even Leeds slashed prices to get bums on seats..... surely its worth trying for a few games at least, possibly until the end of the season. If it doesn't make money at turnstyles then merchandise sales and drinks/food sales would be up!! More importantly it would raise morale and create an atmosphere to lift the players...

    2. Investment in new players - There is no doubting that the likes of De Silva, Macken, Nyatanga and Werling made a key contribution tio our sucess in the 1st half of the season. The loss of these players has ultimately resulted in our decline. The board backed SD well in the summer and to ensure survival they must do so again.

    3. Tactics - I'm no manager and do not claim to be so. SD has done well but his tactics often do not fill me with comfidence. Last week especially when JCR played centrally and Hassell played left back, the players did not seem to know or understand how the system should work?

    4. Substitutions - Far to often in games have been crying out for subs to be made or change in tactics and nothing is done. By the time we come to making changes it is to late and the player does not have time to make an impact. The opposition gradually then either take advantage by either scoring or controlling the play.

    5. Behind the scenes - it seems strange that the likes of Kozluk, Johnson, Ricketts, Christensen and Paul Hayes (last season) have not featured as often as they might. There are always rumours flying around that they have had rift with manager, I'm not sure if this is true but it does seem strange. Kozluk when he has played has done well and could be the answer to our left back problem, Johnson is a tough tackling midfielder and leader (ala Wallwork, Savage etc) just the kind of player we are missing right now, Ricketts again has done well when he has played and could slot in on the left hand side of midfield, finally Christensen has been scoring for fun in the reserves but struggles to make the bench and it is difficult to understand why when the other strikers are not firing.

    6. Strikers - We 5No. strikers in the first team but do not have a Mr Right here and now to get us goals we need. In my opinion we have to many squad players and not enough quality. I honestly do not feel that this bunch would make it into any other Championship side perhaps with the exception of Ferenczi.
Mostto and Odejayi may come good given time but this is something we do not have, for now they are merely squad players. Coulson is a hot young prospect but must be treat as such and cannot be expected to come up with the good this season. Christensen or the forgotten man plays I guess playes a similar role to Ferenczi and for that reason may struggle to start, but he has had a good run of form in the reserves and perhaps deserves a chance.
To summarise my assement of the squad we have 1xFirst choice striker in Ferenczi and the other 4No. are all squad players who need time or have something to prove. This isn't good enough if we want to survive the championship as right here and now we do not have an out and out striker who is ready for first team action. In 12months Mostto/Odejayi/Coulson could be that man, but not right now.
I doubt we have the funds to bring in the magic 20 goals a season man permantly but perhaps a loan deal for a falling/up and coming permiership star could be the way forward.

    7. Leader - We do not appear to have a leadre on the pitch to rally the troups and left them when things go wrong. Howard is a great player but not a leader for me. I really think we missed out by not signing Wallwork when we had chance. Perhaps Andy Johnson should be given another chance to prove himself.
