I was listening to Steve McPhail on the radio the other day, I rate him as a class player and one who will perform a lot better in the football arena of the championship than the pub league we have just left.

( I digress for a sec...Donny Rovers who are bigger than Ipswich are in which league now...oh yes THE PUB LEAGUE)

Anyway, Mcphail said he didnt want to be in a relegation struggle next season. Neither do any of the fans but we are prepared for it and 4th bottem and above will do in season one.

He wants to see proof of our ambition before deciding to stay, I'd like to see proof of a thank you for getting his career back on track at Barnsley. He has to bear in mind none of us wants to go back to the dark days and GS etc can only do what the club can afford.

I would bring in Chopra as we need a more consistant goalscorer in this league but I would play him with Nads as I think they will compliment each other. Hayes I would play wide and give him the freedom to express himself without the pressure of being a front line striker. I think he would score more goals per season if the pressure was taken off him.

If Mcphail goes then he goes with my thanks but we need a strong player in midfield either way. Howard can do it I feel but maybe we just need a little bit more experience of the higher level IMHO.

Anyway whoever AR signs we have to get behind them, no illusions it is going to be a hell of a tough season but I am looking forward to seeing real football again and some big teams. That is until the mighty European champions from Donny can visit us again, oh sorry I forgot they can only do that if they survive the first two rounds of the FA cup and get lucky.

No more pub league football, this is the second premier league now. It is a different beast to the one we left and we have to be realistic in our expectations...cant wait to get started and cant wait to see the signings start.

Ah well, thats just the bald ones rattle for the morning...enjoy and see you in the ponty next season.

RE: Agree to a certain extent......

But playing with a front 6 if you like in nardy, chopra, devaney, hayes, mcphail and howard, appears a bit lightweight for me, we need more steel.
