Here's the thing...

I know it's immoral, I mean - if someone in the office brought a teddy in and called it God, no one would care - but that's because we are in England.

I think what's happened is ridiculous, it truly is. But it's their country, they have rules. They stick by them, this applies to everyone and if you don't follow the rules, you get punished.

I know it appears trivial, silly and downright pathetic...but thats how it appears to US. We don't give a rats ass what you call a stuffed animal. They do, it's THEIR country. And they obviously don't like bags of stuffed material with glass eyes on being called 'Mohammed'...why, oh why didn't she just call it 'Popples' like I called mine. Or even Edward bear?...

    Such is life.

    THEIR Country?

So by that analogy - all Muslims will be celebrating Christmas then in OUR country?

    RE: THEIR Country?

Well, yes. It is our country, they can celebrate Christmas wherever they please.

    What's your point?

If a Muslim came over to England to teach, and decided to take it upon himself to refer to OUR God as a stuffed furry animal, there may well be repercussions.

My point was this, going to a foreign country - you are expected to know the rules and laws. I'd expect anyone, coming to this country to know the laws and abide by them, the lady in question should have gone out their and done the exact same. To do any different, in my opinion is just ignorant.

Apart from the fact that even Muslims cant agree whether its an offence

And even if it is surely the correct action regardless of your religious standpoint if someone makes an innocent mistake is to explain the error and give them a chance to apologise rather than throwing them in gaol.

Would you like all Muslims to celebrate Christmas? Does it upset you that some people don't?

Correct, moral action. Yes, I wholeheartedly agree. It's most humane thing to do.

However, it's not the current world we live in I'm afraid. Laws have been broken in this instance, and punishment has been dealt.

However, if the Sudanese government were to let this fly - everything they stand for, everything their religion stands for would be turned into a laughing stock. I can't fault them for what they are trying to achieve, but the way in which they have gone about it is a tad extreme.

Still, I still stand by the fact that people entering anothers country should uphold the law. Be that someone coming into our country, or vice versa.

We, as Christians celebrate Christmas. But yet, we still don't know for sure when Christ's actual Birthday was.

It's not set in stone, if someone dosn't want to celebrate Christmas, then fair enough...I'll drink all their beer instead :)

Why should we be bothered anyway?

That's it then - cut off aid and let them die. Hang on a minute - isn't that what the Sudanese government wants?

How do you know that "laws have been broken". They haven't according to an expert on Sharia law ont radio this morning. It's just a political judgement.

    Thing is....

...the Sudanese government is one of the most corrupt, degenerate bullshitgovernments in the world. They don't stand for anything but themselves. They're just trying to whip up fundamentalist fervour in an attempt to generate some kind of "unite against the common enemy" mindset to draw attention away from their own wrongdoings. Neither the people nor the mainstream religious establishment want a middle aged western woman flogged and jailed for making a silly mistake.
