On the Sky Sports website, Gary Birtles has tipped Barnsley, Blackpool and Watford for relegation. It seems most pundits see us as relegation fodder. If this does happen, which I dont think it will, but if it does, then we can look to the lack of funds spent on players at the start of the season. The substantial amount available and promised by PC has not come to fruition (yet). However, this may change. The Chronicle supplement of a year ago showed a team that was no where near the team that actually finished the season. I wonder if the supplement in the Chronicle this week is going to turn out the same. We tried for Phillips and were prepared to spend what it took to get him to the WELL. I would imagine those funds are still there. Its good news that we have signed another forward, but again we are using that word 'potential' when we are describing a player. Hopfully Rigter will be the finished article, we will have to see. But we are still in need of a player that is proven at Championship level, a player in the same mold as Phillips, that is to say a striker nearing the end of his career who has GUILE to unlock defences.
As much as it pains me to say this But David Healy, the little scum tw@t, would be an ideal signing for us. Only downside is, it would leave us lacking any height up front. Surely we're still a central midfielder short to get through to January?
