One of the arguments covering the out dated payment of a license fee to the BBC is that of no advertising. I have noted that the BBC website now has advertisements. Is the web and online media covered by the license fee and also can the BBC advertising their own programmes be a breach?
Are you sure? I've just been on and it doesn't contain advertising. I believe they have 2 versions, and if you access it from outside of the country then it contains advertising. If you are refering just to them advertising their own programmes, they are allowed to do that, they do it on TV as well, and are also allowed to advertise the Radio Times
As others have said its only on the oversees version of the site. However that does mean that the BBC has surely still lost its impartiality when it is in part being funded by advertisers
