Who remembers and who is a fan ehh, of these two Bbc series. It really was sort of ahead of its time as a show in 2005-08, or maybe it was also before it's time as well lol. As it dealt with the present and the past and the future. John Simm as Sam Tyler, and Phil Glenister as Gene Hunt, were both brilliant in their roles. , Here's the Trumpton version lol, where Gene is kicking the hell out of a nonce!.
Loved both series, particularly Life on Mars. Got reminded of it the other week and am midway through watching the full two series on iplayer. Will do the same with Ashes to Ashes too.
Hey up Mick. As much as I keep trying (because I've got them all on dvd, and they are also on I-player), Ive never really enjoyed Ashes, as much as Mars. But I think it shows just how good Mars was to begin with. So 1973 ehh, was it really as tough as a brick sh*ithouse lol, I can't remember because I was only 2 at the time lol.
Mars was definitely best. Life could certainly be described as tougher back then although like you I wasn’t very old (was 9 in 1973). The Sweeney would’ve been on tv back then too and Regan and Carter were very Gene Hunt esque
And what about Liz White ehh, as Wpc Annie Cartwright. She was lovely. My favourite episode by the way, was the one with the character Dickie fingers. Kevin McNally as the Super Dci, showing he was corrupt. And the black policeman who was actually Sam's boss in the present day... yeah I know it all sounds weird lol.
Yeah exactly lol, and what are your memories ehh lad, of '73. I love the car which Gene drives, it brings back so many memories for me then. When I liked both the Cortina mk3, and the Capri!!.
And hey seeing as we're talking about it, this is what I remember after that era of the Sweeney. The 'New' Avengers, where Patrick MacNee was so cool, as the character Steed.
They’re the same show, really. Just 10 years further on I guess. Absolutely loved the series and rewatched the lot when I was in between jobs last year. The storyline, acting, music, costume, everything was spot on.
1973 I was 16 recently got mi 1st job and paypacket. Was out and about watching Reds, Dancing to Northern Soul, Getting into certain pubs and listening to Bowie..could life be any better. Series brought back many memories.
Suppose that's a big part of it, being in me prime! Liked both the Cortina but loved the Quatro , always regretted not getting one as they became older and affordable!
When I worked at Butlins, Filey in the summer of 1973, the only music in site was a hits record played over and over on the PA system. There was some right old dross on it but there was David Bowie's Life on Mars. Always cheered me up when it came on.
Brilliant series especially Life On Mars - Gene Hunt is an incredible character. Watched it over and over again - go to comfort show!
