Not happy with referee, thought McCarthy should have been sent off (I thought it was a soft penalty). I agree that the tackle wasn’t a red but their player was stupid to lunge in like that. Totally inept managing in my opinion, the manager is responsible for how they start each half, they will take credit when it goes well!
What is he talking about McCarthy being sent off? For what? It's never been a penalty, and not a red either for their player imo.
He's a complete loon, built a career trading on his name and Darragh MacAnthony's inability to cut the ties. He'll be gone again before the seasons out.
I've seen the replay of the penalty incident and I'm still none the wiser why it was given. As for it being a red card, that's something best kept for April 1st.The words straw and clutch leap to mind.
Yep, and then Darragh will ask Grant McCann back, yet again. Then he'll get sack and t'owd Fergie Jr back in 2026, whilst McCann rejoins Donny, yet again...
Having seen the highlights, I'd have been screaming for penalty if it had been the other way round but a red card? Never in a million years. Mills red card? Harsh, but it was a daft challenge, inviting the referee to make a decision, one of them "seen 'em given" decisions. Certainly no worse than Phillips at Wembley. Otherwise, another 3 excellent goals and worthy winners. Peterborough hate us and this will have rubbed more salt in Fergy can just ferk off.
I'm sorry I just don't know where the penalty is! I've watched it from 3 angles and I'm still not sure. If they're given, like we said other day, they'd be given 15 times a half per game
I thought it was a penalty. There's loads like that not given, but I can't blame this ref for other referees not giving penalties. If you push someone down in the box it should be a penalty. Lots of referees don't give them and they're wrong, this one did, and he was right. No way a sending off though. And their sending off... I don't think it was. It was a foul and a booking, and the referee should have said to the player, "I could send you off here, and if you make one more foul, I will. In fact, go talk to your manager, make him sub you, because one more indiscretion from you and you're gone. Now go apologise to him who you just brought down and make sure I don't even see you again this game." That's proper refereeing. But none of it matters. We were the better team and we won and what the referee did or didn't do had no bearing on the result.
True but McCarthy did have hold of the lad as he went down. Personally I think the powers that be should instruct referees to be much harsher when players grapple at corners etc. The problem is that both sets of players are at it so it's very difficult to decide which player has infringed. 30 or 40 years ago you never saw players man-handling each other like they do today.
Watch that from 9 minutes 10 seconds in mate. I don't think it's a shove/push at all, I just think he's got his hands on him, not ragging him about, and he's thrown himself to the floor. In fact, I've slowed that video down to 0.25, and he's already on his way down as soon as he gets touched. Really don't think it's a penalty - god knows how Fergie thinks it's a red on top of that though!
No idea why the penalty was given - softest I’ve seen for or against in a while. I’m not convinced the red was justified either - the ref obviously saw something we didn’t though as he gave it instantly, no thinking time
Watch that video what I've just posted mate and see if it changes your mind. I slowed it down to 0.25 and honestly I'm convinced he's just gone down
Poor angle that, you miss a second or so of the play. When you see the full action the 'boro player is pulled back. But even if you think it wasn't a penalty, it doesn't matter as we won by outscoring them, being the better team and the ref's decision did not influence the result. https://www.skysports.com/football/...orough-utd-1-3-barnsley-league-one-highlights
2 good results in a row, with good to brilliant at time performances, 5 goals scored. Completely agree the referee's decision didnt influence the result, personally even if they had 11 men for the remainder of the game we would have held on. Don't know if we would have scored again but confident we'd have still won the match. A great day mate.
I thought their pen was soft but I could see why the red was given could have snapped his ankle poor challenge.
