Toney - brilliant, the set up for the goal and his header.

How long did we extend toney loan for he linked up well with winnall in the build up to the first two goals and scored the third. Well played son. Two poor goals to concede though and hung on at end abit but glad to get the away win. time to give Mawson a week off?

Yes, Mawson needs a rest, although the first goal wasn't his fault - he half expected that clearance to be over the half way line.

its telling that they had a shed load of chances towards the end but you'd expect that, losing at home, throw men forward etc , i copied the following from another post on the bbs, its worth remembering as its true.

We won't win every week, we're piss poor at the back - so why not play to our strengths

lets win 3-2 every week and get our monies worth !! :)

Ben Pearson for their first goal: clouts the clearance against Wabara, then instead of busting a gut to get to their forward, stands with his hand in the air claiming offside when it's him that's playing everyone on.

The very best thing that could happen to Barnsley football club is that Man Utd receive a cash offer from another club for Ben Pearson in January and he signs for them. We then turn our attention to an experienced midfield player who can tackle to play alongside Hourihane.

Ben Pearson is exactly the type of player we don't need right now. He's had some very good games, but he's inconsistent with bells on and he costs us goals time and again. In a couple of years, when he's gained the experience and he cuts out the mistakes, I'm sure he'll be a good player. But right now he's holding us back as we're courting him instead of looking for what we really need: an experienced head who'll give us a 7 out of 10 performance week in, week out. Someone who'll win the ball and give it to Hourihane or Hammill to go and play. If it's taken out of our hands and someone else buys Pearson, we'll be forced to sign a player who can help get us out of the mess we're in right now, not potentially swell the coffers in a couple of years time. We've plenty on the books already who also have the potential to do that.

Some good crosses and wing play from Marley. Just can't understand where people think he doesn't contribute!! Worrying that all their chances and pressure came down our left after the first goal. We can blame the centre half pairing as much as we want but if people are cutting in and crossing balls so easily then we will just invite chances.

Must be a different Ben Pearson to the one I watch.

A player like David Perkins is exactly what we could do with in place of Pearson.

I agree with your first sentence, Jay. Laughable appeal for offside.

Whilst Pearson got some good tackles in at Colchester, especially first half (as did Hourihane), in the second half he played virtually every pass in the air in a swirling wind. He wasn't the only Barnsley player to do this, but I would have thought it was obvious that it would have been better to have played the ball on the floor in that wind.

I'd rather chew on my own ball bag. Pearson absolutely bossed Perkins last weekend.

In fact, for someone who's been critical of him this season, in recent games I think he's been terrific. I can't comment on yesterday's game as I wasn't there and don't listen to commentary these days. But aye, he's grown on me in the last few weeks. Looks better further forward in this system. As does Hourihane. As I expected.

I do still agree with what Jay says though. I'd like an older head in there who gets stuck in, wins tackles and headers, and moves the ball on to CH, Hammill, Winnall, Marley, whoever. But Pearson and Scowen are young and I'd like them here long term.

I'd like Mawson here long term too. But by the looks of the highlights, he's again culpable. We need a leader at centre half, not a 'learning to be a leader/centre half'. But, when he has done his learning, I reckon we'll have a good player in Alfie. But I've got to be honest, of the games I've seen this season I'm yet to come away thinking "Mawson was terrific today".

Weirdly, I have thought "Roberts was immense today" after a few games.

    Weird.

    But Perkins over Pearson??

No chance,he is no stand out player like Drinkwater was. The only
Team bidding will probably be us.

Alifie is only a kid (as is pearson) way 2 early for him to captain. He should be concentrating on his game:We have needed THAT experienced player all season to gaffer how/when/why - plain as nose on yer (roys) face.If kelly is on his way Mr Johnson has a nice dilema in selection.I see a 4 3 3 potential ?
Roberts was always going to " hit the wall" big step up for the lad - but poor management to leave him out after the everton game and when he came back sorry to say - he didnt do well.Kevin Long should play on saturday IMHO

I last saw Roberts at Bradford in the JPT. He was like Gerry Taggart in his prime that night. Immense. I can't remember seeing him since but I've slept loads since n all, so chuff knows.

Ahhh, yes. I knew I'd seen him since. But to be fair mate, nobody came out of that game smelling of roses.

Also played in the Fleetwood game and didn't play well.

IMO think hes not played well since August.

For me people blaming Alfie Mowson yesterday are wrong. Watched the second goal back what must be 20 times and their attacker seems to be behind him.

Are you suggesting Porter was offside? He wasn't.
