Superb. I could post some Pixies stuff, as closest to these genius people. Do you like these? They occasionally reach such sonic levels, but I also like tracks like these that remind me on post Velvet Underground sets to. Also the Oh Sees, however you spell them.
Yes, I think I have all Pixies albums. Cardiacs were a very underground band though, visually somewhat unsettling (!) but their songwriting was extraordinary and it's more than worthwhile spending some time listening through their back catalogue. The now dead singer received an honorary doctorate from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for his song-writing, so can't be that bad!
Fantastic live band very powerful. Never thought the energy quite transferred onto record but that’s a corker.
Yes, all the bands John Mcgeoch appeared in were interesting. Although I think Pete Shelley might have written the riff in Shot by Both Sides - it turns up again in Lipstick by the Buzzcocks.
IIRC it was written while Devoto was still in the Buzzcocks and he took it with him to Magazine. IMHO, very, very few songwriters have ever matched the combined outputs of Shelley and Devoto between 1976 and 1980. Doggerel was released in the last couple of weeks if you haven't heard that already.
A band I have never listened to, but Mike Vennart (formerly of Oceansize) is a huge fan and often talks about how great Cardiacs were
literally was about to say the same mate, cardiacs take sone listening to but I think with great perseverance comes great reward
Yes, they seem to have cross-genre appeal. You wouldn't expect members of Napalm Death and Municipal Waste to cover their songs.
