Sheffield United manager Bryan Robson has made an offer for Everton striker James Beattie.
Beattie fell down the pecking order at Goodison Park last season due to the emergence of youngsters James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe.
Robson is hoping to convince Beattie to help The Blades in their push for promotion from the Championship and has submitted a formal bid.
He is also looking to push through another deal in the next couple of days.
"We have put a bid in to Everton and it is one of those situations now where we just have to wait and see," Robson told Sky Sports News.
"If I can persuade the lad to take the drop, hopefully just for one season, I think James Beattie would be a really good signing for us.
"I've got a couple of things in the pipeline which are very close.
"Hopefully over the next 48 hours we can move further forward and make a couple of players Sheffield United players."
Though he is confident one or two more new faces will arrive at Bramall Lane, Robson has reiterated that there is now very little chance of Celtic midfielder Thomas Gravesen signing for Sheffield United.
He admitted: "I wouldn't have thought that deal will happen. I did make an enquiry but I think that's probably dead now."

he scored his first goal in something like 60 games t'other day hes rank, would'nt care if they got him
James Beattie.............is a reight player Although he aint done much at Everton Talking to a ST Everton fan a few weeks ago and he said Beattie were shocking But how does a guy that some said would be the next England centre forward suddenly become crap It dosen't add up Wish we were signing him don't know why the Blunts need him when they have a cart load of other forward players Can't see Hulse and Beattie playing in the same team
Michael Ricketts? It happens. People hit a purple patch and then become crap. I might want James Beattie, but if he's worth £4m, then no thankyou. Even if we had it to spare, I wouldn't touch him for that price.
