How man did we have last season? I know I have a bet with someone about how many we will use this season, but I cant remember who with or how many it was for.
Hard to say. Yes we have 5 already but if we sign any more one will have to be left out, so it's unlikely we'll sign any more before November If we're doing well in January and can keep hold of our current loans we may not sign many more But it's all ifs
I am ok with the loan situation. You have to remember the top premiership clubs were trying to get their second teams competing in the lower leagues. I understand that these players need to get game time that they will not see at their parent clubs, so I would prefer them in our team as apposed to playing against them as top club reserve teams. If we don't take these loans you can rest assure they will be back trying to infiltrate our leagues.
Taking into consideration our budget and wage structure, I don't think we would be able to recruit players who have the attributes that Pearson, Crowley and Rothwell possess. Hopefully, these players, along with Wilkinson, will remain with us for the duration of the season. Johnson spoke about loans turning into to signings - whether or not that will be the case with some of the players with recruited in this manner remains to be seen.
Interesting point Tingley, and one I struggle with. If you were a Prem Manager or 'director of Football' and you had under your care a core of say 15 youngsters who showed real promise, which would you rather do ? a) Stick them in the Under 21 squad and give them a season against similar squads from other Prem teams b) send them out on loan to get 'real' game time in competitive leagues ? My gut feeling is that U21 squads are used only because the FA insist on it - any real talent goes out on loan.
It's this Andy that's sticking in my mind.. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ootball-League-clubs-vote-favour-concept.html
Is this a loan I have missed? @LiveTransferNew: Barnsley have signed goalkeeper Nick Townsend on a youth loan from Birmingham #barnsleyfc ##BCFC http://t.co/mIAf5KQbXk
Unfortunately this is true. Times have moved on. If you want better youngsters than your own, you have to borrow them off the bigger clubs who have too many of them and need to loan them out. Lets face it, we do on a smaller scale when it suits us. All part of the ever increasing money dominated food chain of football. Might as well get used to it, and try & use to our advantage (eg. with loans from Man U & Arsenal) than fight against it. And loans do sometimes turn into good permanents - Ryan Williams for example. Chris O Grady weren't a bad one either, Anderson Da Silva going further back?
Exactly mate. Granted we've had some bad experiences with loan players and they've proven costly but we've also had successes like the players you've mentioned. It can only be a good thing having strong ties with the likes of the two Manchester clubs and Arsenal - hopefully we will keep these lads for the duration of the season. I'm sure the club have a plan in place should they move on.
So then we are on 10 already, in November, looks like I am going to be collecting some cash for charity soon! Just wish I could remember who had the bet with me !
