Someone on Twitter has reviewed all of Leeds United's loanees since their relegation from the Premier League in 2004. They've had exactly 100.

I thought I would look at how many we've had since then. I can only find stats as far back at 2010 for us, but since January 2010, we've had 78 players on loan... 78!!!

I reckon that we had fewer loanees in the years leading up to that, so we might not have had as many as Leeds. But I did notice that the majority of our loans seemed to be between the time of Mark Robins and Danny Wilson, arguably our darkest period in recent memory.

thing that used to frustrate the most was the 1 month or 2 month loans. We would loan loads of kids, they may play a couple of games then go back.

The changes to the rules - 6 month or season long - and only sign during transfer windows, will mean players will at least have time to settle, and hopefully develop.

The only thing I would change is you can only be loaned to one club in each division a year. To prevent the Chelsea situation where they recalled Izzy Brown from Rotherham, and loaned him to Huddersfield. Properly shafted Rotherham that. Not that I think had he stayed they would have survived but it pretty much killed any small hope.

On the subject of Chelsea, I feel there should be a limit on the number of players you can send out on loan. Chelsea had 37 players out on loan at one time last season. Yesterday they gave Kurt Zouma a new 6 year deal, and immediately loaned him out to Stoke. They're flooding the market with overseas talent whilst young English players are missing out on the key stages of their development. There's few English Chelsea players who make it above championship level. You've probably heard of most of them because they're a force in the u23s, yet they stick around too long at Chelsea to ever make an impression in anyone's first team.
