A man from Shafton who's terminally ill with brain cancer has launched a petition to force the government to talk about the disease. Karl Martin was told he had a tumor back in 2007. Now he wants to get 100,000 signatures by June 19th so that MPs will have to discuss the topic. He says he wants to help improve other people's chances of beating brain cancer, which has become the biggest cancer killer of children in the UK. He's already got the support of Barnsley FC and cricketer Ian Botham, but says he needs as many signatures as possible. Karl, who is a father of two, says they inspired his children inspired him to do this: "Its not for me, its for other people in the future. I know that at some point its going to take my life and I'm going to have to leave my kids. But for somebody who's losing a child, and I know some people who have gone through that, this is for family's like that in the future. "We could have 99,999 signatures and they will shut the petition and thats it. The awareness won't help me because my illness is terminal. Come on people PLEASE sign this petition Sorry to hear about your friend. My cousin died from a brain tumour, in fact it was the third one he had had. This was many years ago but nothing seems to have progressed much medically since. My friends little girl Ebonie Webb who is 4 years of age has a brain tumour and we are currently fund raising to get her to America for proton treatment. We are not too far off from reaching the target required. The government has finally announced after years of pushing that they will be opening two proton therapy centres in the UK. This will save so many lives and also stop alot of unecessary suffering. At the moment they keep dragging out Ebonie's chemo as she is too young for radiotherapy and it is giving her terrible lasting side effects. Unfortunately it will be upto five years before the centres open in the UK. I will pass the link for the petition onto Ebonie's parents so they can put it onto their Facebook pages and spread the word, they also know alot of parents from the hospital with children in the same position.
