http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23000926 Never seen flooding like it. Downtown closed, schools closed, roads and bridges closed. Fortunately we live on a hill overlooking the Bow River valley. Even more fortunately we can still walk to the pub. Could be an early start to the weekend
Canada`s a big place! Toronto`s in the 30Cs, for example. And we`re supposed to be in high 20s next week. Depends where you go. I thought I`d seen rain when I lived in the UK, but nothing like this. They are saying it is a 1 in 500 year event in places.
Yeah I have seen it on one of those map things. I was just saying. I did come across a bit airhead though. I think he did mention the West though, can't really remember now. Maybe I am an airhead?
Laughing. Not quite as much of an airhead as some people on here, mind ;-) And if you can identify Canada on a map (you know, the second largest country in the world!) you are doing better than the average American.
We are over in Cornwall, ontario, currently pushing 90 degrees, hope things soon improve for you mate
global warming - starting ......... http://news.sky.com/story/1106748/india-550-killed-in-floods-and-landslides
Agreed. Probably caused by Utility companies, people who commute by helicopter, and football fans driving hundreds of miles to watch their team.
Thanks. We are perfectly safe where we live on a hill looking down on the valley. But this is as bad as it can get - I guess similar to what happened in Sheffield (and Barnsley) a few years back. At least 4 people have been swept away and not yet found. Power and water is out for about 200,000 people. The Saddledome where the Calgary Flames play (NHL) is submerged to row 45 now (i.e. up to the first level of boxes). Some hospitals have had to close and pretty much every major road is closed due to flooding. Non-essential travel is not permitted, to allow the emergency services and army to move around.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH the saddledome had many a good evening watching the flames in there. How will all this affect the Calgary Stampede, The greatest show on earth. Im guessing the stampede grounds are under 4-5 feet of water aswell
The picture above is of the Stampede Grounds - and yes it is under about 5 feet of water. The Stampede will take place, I'm sure of it, but some of the big concerts at the Saddledome will undoubtedly be cancelled.
