looking at buying a sat nav, advice please

not wanting owt that takes a degree in astro physics... something that's easy to do.. ie stick my postcode in and the destination post code then just go. I also like the look of the ones that give you a picture of the road and puts arrows down to keep you in the right lane. I am not wanting to spend above £100, but obviously as less than that as is possible. I get the impression that the better 2 on the market are either TomTom or Garmin. I will mainly be using it for holiday travel ... 3 to 4 times a year... so do not need anything from the bridge of the "Enterprise"
I will be grateful for all advice.

Halfords were selling a tomtom at 69 quid the other week. That's as good as you'll get... Paid £89 for my tomtom start..

 

Mines provided by work and we've always used Garmin,I've currently got a widescreen that's been good, came with free lifetime map updates, that's a thing that's worth considering when you are looking.

 

I've had a TomTom and a Garmin (my current one is a Garmin). Never had problems with either. If you're not going to use it very often though most Smartphones will do GPS for free (which I don't like as much but will get you there and cost nothing if you already have a Smartphone). I know you only want a simple one but I do think ones with lane assist are better as it can be confusing at times without. Mine also tells me the speed limit of the road which I like (although it can be wrong at times).

They are basically all the same, the main differences in price are due to screen size, lane assist, speed limit display and whether they have European Maps or not. Garmin tend to have more add-ons and therefore I prefer them but if you just want to get from A to B TomTom is fine.

 

Didn't you say you have an hudl? There is an appointment for it and you can buy a dashboard mount that gives you a big screen clear sat nav

 

seriously... and will it work like the Garmins and Tom Toms... will it give me lane advice ?

 

There are different apps available and I'm not sure what features there are on each one. The one I use doesn't have lane advice but that is mainly because I downloaded the first one I found. It does appear to perform just the same in general though except much bigger

I'll vouch for using your phone/hudl. I've used my phone for years, just Google Maps app. Free. Only satnav I've ever owned used to confuse the hell out of me. It'd tell me I was breaking the speed limit while stationary.

i wouldnt be spending money on other devices when you can use what you've got

Sat nav with speed camera alerts and other toys

I use Google maps on my phone even though I've got a Tom Tom, never let me down yet
