Barnsley decision later today

Posted on:Tue 03 Feb 2009

Sheffield Wednesday, together with the relevant local authorities, will make a decision later today whether the club's Championship clash with local rivals Barnsley will go ahead this evening.

While there are no problems with the pitch at Hillsborough, the current cold snap could impact on the safety of spectators getting to and going home from the ground.

The club's operations manager John Rutherford told swfc.co.uk: "We have been preparing for this weather for three weeks, we knew it was coming. The undersoil heating was switched on immediately after Saturday's game so with regard to the playing surface, there is absolutely no problem.

"There was a coating of snow on the pitch on Tuesday morning, which our team promptly cleared.

"However, because the safety of spectators is paramount, there could be an issue in terms of access with supporters getting to and going home from the ground, which will be determined by the temperatures throughout the day.
"For that reason, we will monitor the situation and make a final decision later on Tuesday. I would ask our supporters to check the club's official website for further updates and also thank them for their patience and understanding."

Why can't we make our own mind up if it is safe for us?

H&S gone mad. Why not impose a curfew so none of us will slip on a bit of ice.

It looks like a decision isn't going to made at 12 then. A bit of a bugger for those of us who need to know before 2!
