sick of ritchie and his tactics formations and excuses, sick of skint corner shop mentality of the chairman,i would rather have had us stayed in league1 where at least we could compete against teams, bfc have rolled over like a dead dog and i for one am seriously considering staying away from oakwell unless something changes fast,if the club dont give a f*ck about survival in this league why should i??
I can understand your feelings mate. How many more times can they insult our intelligence by saying we're after new players but talks broken down or whatever. I'm afraid they will try and make do this season and if they stay up then thats a big bonus, if not then they'll say at the end of the season, we were ahead of schedule anyway and wasn't ready for the championship. I still have faith in Ritchie and believe he's the man for us but I feel this is a bonus season for us to be in the championship and now feel 100% certain we won't be signing any new players this side of 2006 anyway. 4th from bottom is probably the target.
4th from bottom was always the target really, but we simply cannot achieve that with our current team. You are right also about them insulting our intelligence with talk of attempted signings.
agree , we needed a centre half and a forward in october to kick us on, now we need about 7 players, we didn't strengthen when we were playing well, which was a big mistake
I think it's fair to say that a fair few of us are losing interest. Infact if we go down i cannot see myself getting a season ticket for the first time in over a decade. I cannot watch anymore of the poor league one football.
Belt up. You couldn't expect more of any manager. How short your memory is. Cardiff is one of my best memories as a Barnsley fan. It was thrilling. Ritchie did that - he took a bunch of midtable division 1 footballers (old third division) and turned them into a promotion outfit. Did that catch your attention? It was at least a season earlier than most of us expected.
Then we get promoted, Chairman says that we have money to strengthen - turns out to be two bob, and the side is left to fight it out. I am please that Ritchie hasn't spent what little money we have on simply whatever is available - he is clearly a shrewd and discerning man. If he can't get in better than what he already has, why do it? Just to keep the fans interested?
So we're in a relegation dog fight. The manager is doing his level best with what he has to keep this team up. But now your interest has gone. I should think that we owe Ritchie more than that. We've been through the downward spiral of hiring and firing managers - and where did that get us? And more to the point, who could we reasonably hope to attract that could do better than Ritchie? It's not exactly a glamour job, is it? A relegation fight at Barnsley.

RE: Belt up. You couldn't expect more of any manager. How short your memory is. I expect the manager to have some ambition for the club and supporters who pay his wages.
RE: Belt up. You couldn't expect more of any manager. How short your memory is. Exactly POD. How can we be expected to back them by buying a season ticket next season in league one. If they don't show us ambition this season with the money we have spent this season on a season ticket ?
RE: Belt up. You couldn't expect more of any manager. How short your memory is. Didnt you spend the same amount last season?
RE: Belt up. You couldn't expect more of any manager. How short your memory is. Yes i did and the club showed ambition last season to get promoted. This season they didn't got for Chopra, didn't show ambition to keep Mcphail, let go Shuker who deserved a chance in this league after playing over 50 games for us last season etc.
WTF? Ritchie has no ambition? He got us promoted at least one season early!
Now we're in a relegation fight he wants to keep us up more than anyone else - but what can he do? What more can he do? Do you want him to bleed on regional television over it? For crying out loud - you can question his tactics, but his motives must be trusted.
If you genuinely believe that we can expect to do a lot better (with what we have) than we currently are you're in cloud cuckoo land.

RE: Belt up. You couldn't expect more of any manager. How short your memory is. Righto,
We signed a couple of freebies , Hayes and Wright.
I dont think anyone last season said that these signings showed any kind of ambition.

RE: WTF? A manager who publicly says that this club will not win the FA cup so it doesnt matter if our players get cup tied and this club will never get into the Premier League has no ambition! Full Stop! No argument!
The state the club is currently in , it cant get to the Premiership. I want us to go up again , but I know that the current situation dictates that we cannot.

Will you stop banging on about the F.A. Cup...
If he was talking about winning the F.A. Cup and getting promoted to the Premier League, with us as we are, I'd be seriously worried about him. The fact is that we're looking at a manager who is realistic and focused on the job in hand (i.e. surviving this bloody relegation fight). Let me break this to you, we're not going to win the F.A. Cup this year, and promotion is not on the agenda either (even if the manager was after it). With a squad as small as ours a cup run in either or both competitions could be enough to relegate us simply out of fatigue. I'm not convinced that Ritchie ever went on the record to say that Barnsley are 'never' going back to the premier league - and I'm sure that if he did, he was referring to this season as opposed to an absolute 'never'. So why keep bringing it up? Ritchie was clearly ambitious enough to drive the team on to promotion last year when just about everyone else wrote us off for it. So why twist his words and subvert his reputation? It doesn't help anyone.

RE: Will you stop banging on about the F.A. Cup... As far as I am aware I have not twisted his words! As I have said on many occasions I dont expect us to win the FA cup this season! I dont expect us to get promotion to the Premier League this season! I do however expect the manager to have the drive and ambition and motivational thought to be able to come out and say (whatever he thinks privately)that whatever the difficulties we will do everything possible to go as far as possible in whatever competition we enter! Motivation is a managers biggest asset his comments this week have been nothing but demotivating!
RE: Will you stop banging on about the F.A. Cup... If he had only said this once in a radio interview, it could be put down as a slip of the tongue, in the heat of the moment. The fact is that he has said the same thing in at least two seperate radio interviews. That isn't a slip of the tongue. His job is to motivate his team and in so doing, motivate the fans who put good money into the club on a regular basis. It doesn't matter whether it is realistic or not. If his players think that he isn't bothered or doesn't have the ambition to try to improve the results, then why should they continue to run their b@llocks off every week. As for his ambition last season. If my memory serves me correctly, his mantra last season was "we are over achieving" in a manner that suggest panic rather than ambition. We got lucky last season and nobody knows that better than Andy Ritchie.
RE: Will you stop banging on about the F.A. Cup... Sorry, if I was a player working for AR, I was hearing him say (with the size and quality of the squad that we have) that he expects us to give 100% to the F.A. Cup, League Cup and a promotion push - knowing full well that we'll be doing tremendously well to stay up (never mind any of the above) I'd think he was a joker. It wouldn't motivate me, it would piss me off.
It would appear that you would rather have AR lie to you and tell you that we're going to have a cup run. As if we can afford to do that with the depth of our squad!
The fact is that motivating the squad has nothing to do with saying 'I want to win everything!'. He'll need all the drive and ambition he has to keep the players focused on the real task in hand: staying up. What is wrong with being realistic?
