now the impression I get is there are those who want him to fail to br proven right (Dragon Tyke) and those who want him to succeed to be proven right as well (Young nudger)

The simple fact is he is our manager NOW so why have these debates after 3 games. The one thing everyone can agree on (which will be a first) is that 3 defeats is not a good start to the season but we still have another 44 league games to go and changing the manager will only bring the excuses of "this is not my team, the players fitness levels are no good, the previous management spent all the transfer money etc" if things go badly which we have all heard before!

Now Davey has never been a popular choice with the fans since he was appointed but he has done what has been asked of him so far with consolidation in the Championship and a bonus cup run which I never thought I would see in my life time!

This season expectations are higher than previous years (i would say even more so than promotion season from league one) as fans want to see improvements but saying after 3 games Davey should be out simply undo's the hard work from the last season and a half. Patience is not a word many people associate with Barnsley fans and after reading this board it would be justified but remember we have a fair few injuries at the moment so lets see how we go 10-15 games into the season before we start asking questions!

Some fans will back what ever manager we have others will be disgruntled at some but not others (Young Nudger never back AR but does SD) and then the final few hate all BFC managers but the simple fact is they are the manager love it or hate it!

I will hold my hand up and admit that I called for his removal from the post about 10 months ago, something I have never done with any manager we have had in my lifetime. I now think that I was wrong then. I have now returned to my normal belief that stability is worth more than the half dozen points that may be gained from a change before the squad realize that they are likely to be out of a regular place under a new regime and play in the demoralized way that we have seen over the last decade of far too frequent managerial change. Get behind him and believe in the team. We have to play our part and provide all the support we can.

while i do see your point

i would like to point out that my belief that davey should be moved on is based on results over the last 25 games or so, we have been shocking for the last 6 months of football from january onwards

RE: while i do see your point....but

the end result/goal was to consolidate our league position which did he achieve and moving a manager because we are playing badly does not bring any stability to the club which has been lacking over the last decade.

Like I said this year expectations are higher from all aspects of the club, fans, players, staff and PC, so this is the real test this season to see if SD can move us onto the next level or not, and personally we can judge this after 3 games?

At the end of the season if we have played shi*e all season but still finish top half means he has achieved what he has been asked to do or would you still want him about because although we have achieved what is been asked we did it by playing shi*e?

My expectations aren't higher. I would be happy with staying up with a handful of games to spare.

But our league form since January has yielded less than a point per game which will see us relegated. We are not progressing. We are getting worse under Davey.

We only stayed up last season because of the start we had. Since then its been a constant decline in league results.

It's nothing to do with raised expectations.

    I think we get you....

... what are you hoping to achieve by repeating the same thing over and over again?

So am I not allowed my opinion? You fascist!

If I was saying how everything was great would you criticise me for repeating that?

No, you just don't like my opinion and you can't handle the truth about your beloved SD.

Answer the question: Do you think we've improved?

I'm not asking for your subjective opinion on players, but on if you think RESULTS have improved?

If you say yes, then you must be deluded because the facts show we are getting worse.

It would if the season ran the calendar year. Luckily it doesn't.

You're painting quite a dark picture to be honest. We had a bad run from the end of January - April. Then we won 3 out of 6 after the FA Cup. The stats you're giving only show the worst part of our season, not the good start we had. There's no mention of the 25 games before January when we picked up 34 points. That's upper midtable mate panned out over a season.

But statistics eh? We can make them say what we want!

That's true Dyson, but the figures I quote are over the past half season equivalent. The most recent half season.

But in the most recent half season we stayed up and had a run to Semi's of the FA Cup.

Still not bad eh? Don't think you can consider last seasons form this year either.

You are allowed your opinion and we understand you. Other posters are coming along with different opinions and different reasons both in support and criticism of the club. It's a debate, you come along "not enough points since January" - over and over, it's not adding anything, say something new.

I don't love Davey, I just know that BFC, over its recent history, the last 10 years or so, have changed their manager too often. There are no consistently successful clubs (and by that, I judge, achieving beyond their means, e.g. Crewe, Reading, Bolton, even the Blunts (Chelsea and Manure could be an interesting debate)) who chop and change their managers, and by changing their managers a lot there are a lot of examples who do not do as well as they should, e.g. Forest, Leeds, Washday.

We also hear at the Olympics about success be brought about by positive mental attitude. I believe that if we all try and stay as positive as possible, I understand it is hard for some, then that will bring more success to Barnsley.

    Improved since when?

Since we were in the relegation zone after 15 odd games in 2006 (I'm sure soemone will correct me) - yes we have improved.

From Season 06/07 to Season 07/08 - yes.

Over the last 24 league games - no.

It's almost as if there's been a shift towards the lack of enthusiasm felt by some at the time brought about by a decline in performances.
