Hello Everyone, I always read the forum but have never posted. Anyway last night I got to thinking whats better purely from a fans point of view. I came up with two scenarios, would you rather:- A) We remained in the championship aiming for fourth from bottom to mid table, hanging onto the hope that we could do what we did in 97 or 2000, or B) Be a yoyo club with the posibility of a few promotions and maybe a few trips to Wembley and hoping we win more than we lose Obviously nothing is ever guaranteed and it took a while to get out of league one, but we had a great day out. I just wondered what peoples opinions are?
Midtable any day. If you are in this league and keep plugging away you should get to the stage where you challenge again.
There is no future for Barnsley F.C. in the lower leagues.
SHEPHERD OUT. DAVEY OUT.

Build on what you've got - rather than chuck everything away in blind panic at the first sign of something going wrong.
Welcome to the BBS It would be nice for each season to be a little better than the previous one. Progress on and off the field can be dull to watch though! Fans don't seem to get all that excited when a mid-table team chalks up five more points than it had the previous season. It's also important to get something from the derby games. It was pretty good against Leeds (seemingly forgotten), but appalling against Wednesday (destined to live long in the memory).
What your Preference? Staying in this league, then....... doing a Reading/Charlton/Wigan/Bolton/Portsmouth to go up. These were all alongside us not long ago. Shows what can be done with sound management and a little money and AMBITION.
RE: Best example you did not mention.... Yes, forgot about them. Is Morgan a regular with them? Wouldn't mind seeing him back at Oakwell.
Anyone remember Johnny Evans & Barry Thomas? Saved us from the drop. We were in a similar situation about 25 years ago, looking doomed for the drop, and our manager (Johnny Steele?) made two inspired signings and we never looked back. They saved the day - but he ADDED them to the team; he didn't sell our best to make way for them.
1966/67 Season................................................ Don't you mean they saved us from having to apply for re- election to the old 4th Division?
Can't remember exactly what division we were in, but those two definitely had a real impact, and saved us. Now Simon, let's have two similar inspired signings, but NOT at the expense of selling off our best assets. That wouldn't make any sense at all.
It was 66/67 It was 66/67. They were both good players at that level but most of the team were capable players but we could not score goals. We were promoted the season after. John Dennis senior paid £10k for the pair. £6k for one and £4k for the other, can't remember who was the £6k player.Evans came from Exeter and Thomas from Scnuthorpe. Thomas scored 10 goals and Evans scored 9. They signed for us in November. I had a memorable night on the pop with Johnny Evans in the late 70's / early 80's in the Royal Hotel , very funny bloke.
You cannot - CANNOT - choose to be a yoyo club. You can guarantee relegation, oh aye, but NOT promotion.
4 years last time - 22 the time before.
Prepare yourself for many, many seasons of third rate football.
